Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Program, Focus & Approach

Inquiry Learning Documentation

Inquiry learning generates from rich and engaging experiences that entice children into formulating important questions they want to seek answers to and to being active participants in learning. There is a seamless approach in taking up inquiry topics where the meaningful connection of the core curriculum and the infusion of technology, creative arts and creative thinking occurs.

Both the school and classroom teacher creates an overarching question for the year with his/her class which places the learning in a prominent place within all of the curriculum. With daily discussions and important conversations and readings, children begin to see the interconnectedness and the recursive elements of the curriculum .On some occasions; inquiry learning is deepened with artists and professional experts.

Below are some examples of overarching questions.

How Are We Unique?
How Do We Celebrate Our Global Community?
How does where we live effect how we live and who we are?
How can we be the best we can in everything we do?
What can we discover to help us understand our world?
How are we connected?
Do our early experiences with nature create a sense of responsibility to the earth and its inhabitants?
What is change?
In What ways Does The Earth Speak?
What are the meaningful moments in my life?
What is our perspective of the world around us?
What is Magical about Nature?
What lasting treasure can we find in the changes that occur in ourselves, our families and our world?
How does change affect global awareness and citizenship?
How do our diverse backgrounds enrich our lives as Canadians?
How Does Mythology Reveal Where We Are?
What does it mean to live a life of purpose?
What is Beautiful?
What can we do to make our world a better place?
How must we be the change we wish to see in the world?
How are we connected?
How is the layered landscape revealed to us?
Change is constant and occurs in patterns all around us.
