February 2023 Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome to February! I hope this message finds you well. Now that we have settled back into routines, following winter break, staff and students are in the midst of many new learning opportunities.

I was proud to review our first semester report cards over the last couple weeks, there has been growth and learning for all our students. Thank you to our staff who work diligently to create learning opportunities and support for all our students.

Our grade 5 students had the chance to visit the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre this week for Police School. They enjoyed the trip and were happy to share their stories and experiences. Stay tuned as we get closer to spring,  all our teachers are considering some upcoming field trip opportunities to support their classroom lessons.

I would like to take an opportunity to remind you about some important details and dates for the month ahead:

Firstly, a reminder that student Report Cards are still available online, through your MyCBE Account (often referred to as your PowerSchool account). If you need help signing up for this account or are having trouble viewing report cards, please contact the main office for support, Ms. Bawar, our fantastic admin secretary is happy to lend a hand with this.  It is important that all parents/guardians have this account as it will be something utilized throughout your child's schooling for report cards, school fees, parent teacher conference booking, along with marks and attendance as they get older.  Report cards will only be available, for online parent access, between Jan 30 and Feb 3. Save the file or take a picture if you would like to save this document.

An additional reminder about attendance. It is so very important that your children are attending on a regular basis. If for some reason they cannot be here, please call the attendance line, 403-777-8220 ext: 1 to report your child's absence. Please give their name (spelling the last name), class and reason for their absence. It is also helpful for you to tell us who is calling in the absence. When signing out early, advanced notice is appreciated and parents/guardians must come to the main office to collect their child.  Please see the attached tips sheet from CBE that is important for us all to review.

We would ask that any families who have moved, changed their phone numbers or who have new emergency contacts for their child, please contact the main office. It is very important that we have the most up to date info, in case of an emergency.

During the latter part of February our grade 4 and 5 students will be completing the Alberta Education Assurance Survey. This survey asks them about their experiences at school and their opinions about learning. Teachers will also complete this survey along with grade 4 parents. If your child is in grade 4 please watch your mailbox, in the coming weeks, for a letter from the Alberta government with survey details. It can be completed on paper or online and is available in a number of languages. This is important data and we ask that all grade 4 parents complete this.

We are currently accepting Kindergarten registrations for the 2023-2024 school year. This is completed onlinebut the main office can support by answering questions or helping with getting you set up online. If you have younger children needing to register, we encourage you to complete this task as soon as possible.

We would like to take this opportunity to send a shout out to First Alliance Church who support our school community through weekly snack bags for every student. They also provide a limited number of produce bags which are available, on a first-come-first-serve-basis at the front of the school. This resource is available at the end of the school day, around 3pm. We are so very thankful for this tremendous support.

We have some February Spirit Days coming up so mark your calendars! Dates are listed below. We appreciate seeing the wonderful participation for our Spirit Days, so far this year!  It is wonderful to see our community come together and showcase their school spirit.
