| Dear Families, It has been fantastic to have our students back to school this week! It has been wonderful to feel the welcoming atmosphere in each class and the enthusiasm. There were lots of smiles and excitement from both our kiddos and staff. We are looking forward to learning and growing as a Patrick Airlie School community this year. As we begin this new school year a few reminders from the main office. Firstly, a reminder there is no school on Monday as it is a holiday. We will return to school on Tuesday, September 5 at 8:20am. A reminder that entry doors are as follows: - Playground Doors (back of school) – Kindergarten, grade 1 and 4
- Parking Lot Doors (south entrance) – grade 2, 3 and 5
Pickup locations will be: - Parking Lot Doors (south entrance) – grade 2, 3 and 5
- Front Gate (to the left of the front door) – grade 1 and 4
- Front Doors – Kindergarten
*Families, we ask that at pickup you DO NOT come on the field, compound and playground. It is very hectic trying to maintain student safety and ensure everyone is able to easily meet their adult. Please talk to the supervisor at the fence (look for the person wearing a blue safety vest) and they will radio for teachers to send your child over to meet you.
Parents and guardians are asked to complete annual forms through their MyCBE account. When you log in, scroll and choose School Engage. You will then be given a list of forms that MUST be completed as soon as possible. The only forms that we require done on paper are: Student Health Forms – completed only for students who have a significant medical condition or require prescription medication kept on site for emergencies. Please contact the main office for support with this process. Pick-up Permission Form – if there are others who have permission to pick up your child after school, we must have this information on file in the office. This includes older siblings. Teachers sent this form home with students this week, however if you a need a copy, it can be obtained from the office. Backpacks and school supplies which students received were supplied by the ISSP Program. We are so thankful for their continued support and generosity. Along with these supplies they have provided a $50 Walmart gift card and a $10 Subway gift card for each student. To pick up these cards we would ask parents/guardians come by the main office on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7 between 9:30-11am and 1:30-2:30pm. They must be picked up by legal parent/guardian who is responsible for signing for the cards, at the specified times. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school. We appreciate your support and are looking forward to a fantastic year!
All the best, Mary-Elizabeth Kaiser Principal

- First Days of School
- Kindergarten Staggered Entry
- Bell Times & Attendance
- MyCBE Accounts

- Teacher Contact
- Dismissal
- ISSP Program
Office Hours
The main office re-opens Monday, August 28 at 9am. Office hours, for our start-up, will be as follows:
August 28, 29 and 30 - 9am-3pm
For the remainder of the year, the office hours will be:
Monday-Thursday 8am-3:30pm
Friday 8am-12:30pm If you need support from Bawar, our admin secretary, we would ask that you contact her to make an appointment or drop in anytime after 9am. Between 8 and 9am our office is quite busy with late arrivals and other morning routines. This will allow her to give you to time and attention you require.
First Days of School
The first day of school is Thursday, August 31, 2023. Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 teachers will meet their classes on the field, beginning at 8:10am. School begins at 8:20am. Teachers will be in contact, prior to the first day to welcome your child to their class. Please watch your email for a message.
Kindergarten Staggered Entry Our kindergarten program is full-day.
As this is student’s first school experience we begin with a staggered entry. This means students will attend for a shorter time, over the first week. This allows them to get accustomed to the school and routines. It also allows our staff to get to know them and best place them in their homeroom class.
Your child will be assigned a staggered entry group (A. B or C) and they will attend, according to the following schedule:
Thursday August 31st, 2023 | 9:30am-10:30am 1:30pm-2:30pm | Friday September 1st, 2023 | 9:30am-10:30am | Tuesday September 5th, 2023 | 9:30am-11:30am 1:00pm-3:00pm | Wednesday September 6th, 2023 | 9:30am-11:30am | Thursday September 7th, 2023 | 9:00am-12:00pm
| Friday September 8th. 2023 | 8:20am-12:00pm |
Arrival and dismissal on the first few days of school will be at the front door of the school.
If you are unsure of your child's staggered entry group, please contact the main office.
Bell Times & Attendance Bell times for the 2023-2024 school year are: Monday-Thursday 8:20am-3:13pm Friday 8:20am-12pm If your child is late arriving at school, they enter through the main doors and will proceed to class after checking in at the office. A reminder to phone the school to report late arrivals or absences. If we are not contacted, you will recieved an automated message reporting your child's absence.
Regular and punctual attendance is very important and we look forward to seeing all our learners daily. Our school calendar is attached can be found on our website.
MyCBE Account
Parents/guardians require a PowerSchool account (called your MyCBE account). This will allow families to navigate achievement data, report cards, booking parent teacher conferences and many other features. Please follow this link for directions on how to create your account. You can also contact Bawar if you have any questions.
Class Placements
We would ask that parents refrain from contacting the school to make class change requests, particularily regarding classmates and teachers. Our staff has worked hard to place all students in the right classroom environment (both academically and socially). Please remember that one student move has an immense impact on everyone.
Teacher Contact A reminder that your child's teacher is your first point of contact if you have questions or concerns. Email is often the best way to initiate contact and staff will contact you via email or phone within 24-hours. Teacher contact informaion can be found on our website.
Dismissal At the end of the day, students must be picked up by a designated adult. Your child's teacher will notify you of their pick-up location. A staff member will be there to radio the teacher that you are present for pick-up. Students with permission to walk home will require a completed permission form which will be kept on file in the office. This form will be distrubuted the first day of classes. We would ask families to please follow the rules of the road when picking up students. Park in assigned areas and do not stop in the middle of the road. The safety of our students, staff and families is of the utmost importance.
ISSP Program Patrick Airlie is once again privledged to be supported by the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP). This allows us to provide our breakfast and lunch programs, well-being supports and daily phsyical education. We will share more details about ISSP in the coming weeks.
We look forward to seeing our students and families. Please continue to monitor your email and our school website for updates throughout the year. Any questions, please reach out to the main office for support.
All the best, Mary-Elizabeth Kaiser Claudette Groudeau Principal Assistant Principal

| Dear Families, June has arrived and with it, we are in a month of celebration and transition. It was wonderful to see so many families at our Pancake Breakfast last week. To see our community coming together, to share food and conversation was fantastic! We have appreciated our school community showing up and supporting events like this.
I would like to report that swimming lessons also went well, despite scheduling changes. The flexibility and support of our families helped make this a success. Our students demonstrated growth in their skills and when I was able to see them in action I was impressed with their participation and perseverance. Stay tuned, swimming report cards will be sent home in the coming weeks. Our grade 5 students had the opportunity to visit Ernest Morrow School in late May. They were able to meet staff, tour the school and learn more about middle school programming. There was a great vibe and students were excited to learn more about their transition to grade 6.
On June 21 students and staff will be celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day. We will come together to kick-off the day with a flag raising ceremony. Throughout the day, students will be working with their classroom teacher, in various ways to honour and recognize the day.
We have many events this month so I would ask that you closely review upcoming details and dates. | Dear Families, Happy May! We are excited for sunshine, warmer weather and more outside learning opportunities in the coming months. These last few months are busy, with a variety of learning opportunities and I wanted to share some particulars with you. We had our second lockdown drill of the year this morning. We are so proud of our students who were calm, quiet and did exactly what they needed to do. Calgary Police was on site to support with this drill and were very complementary of how our staff and students handled the process. Well done! We are getting set for Circus School next week! Green Fools Theater will be here from May 8-11 to work with all students during their PE class. Students will be exploring different types of movement skills with a trained instructor and Ms. Halls. Another exciting event is the arrival of eggs! Students are exploring animal and plant growth through their various science curriculums and in support of this work we will have chicken and quail eggs on site for the month of May. We will have the opportunity to learn about the process and timeline of the eggs hatching and will host the baby chicks for a few weeks as well. We are looking forward to this great learning opportunity. Along with this, we are utilizing our outdoor learning space and planting a garden. Students are exploring different types of plants, their growth cycles and the process for planting. Swimming lessons are later this month. Please watch your email for a list of requirements for lesson days. Forms went home last week and it important these are returned to your child’s teacher as soon as possible! We want all students attending and learning water safety skills. Reminder, Kindergarten registration is ongoing and if you have new students joining us or know of someone joining our community, we encourage that the registration process is done as soon as possible. This helps us to make sure we have the staff and support in place for our students, for September. Please add the following dates to your calendar: May 4 – Spirit Day (Star Wars Day) May 5 – Non-instruction Day (no school) May 8-11 – Green Fools Circus School Residency in PE May 10 – School Council Meeting (childcare will be provided) May 12 – Assembly May 15 –18 – Swim Lessons (more details to come) May 22 – Victoria Day (no school) May 29 - Non-instruction Day (no school) May 30 – Jun 1 – Swim Lessons (more details to come) Jun 2 – Pancake Breakfast Jun 2 – Spirit Day (Beach Day) Jun 7 – School Council Meeting Jun 9 - Non-instruction Day (no school) Jun 16 – Kindergarten Celebration (more details to come) Jun 23 – Play Day Jun 28 – Grade 5 Farewell Jun 29 – Year-end Assembly (whole school) Jun 29 – Last Day of School Aug 31 – First Day of School for 2023-2024 If you have any questions about the above dates, please reach out to your child’s teacher, administration or the main office for further details. | Dear Families, Our Patrick Airlie community is keeping busy with many learning tasks and celebrations. I continue to be impressed with the learning opportunities in our classrooms and always enjoy hearing from the students what they are learning. April 11: First Day of Classes following Spring Break
April 14: Spirit Day – Dress Like your Favourite Book Character - While we have not charged any school-based fees, at Patrick Airlie this year, all K-6 students in the CBE are charged Noon Supervision Fees. The only exception is for students who are picked up by a parent/guardian and go home EVERY day. Parents, please note that you will see Noon Supervision fees charged to your MyCBE account in the coming weeks. Any questions can be directed to the main office.
- In the morning, outside supervision does not begin until 8:10am and doors do not open until 8:15am. We would ask that parents and guardians are not sending their students too early, teachers are not available before this time and we want to ensure they arrive when there is staff supervision at the entrances. Thank you for your support with this.
- A reminder to contact the school if you are running late for pickup. We dismiss at 3:13pm, Monday through Thursday and 12pm on Friday.
- If your phone number, email or address has changed, please contact the main office. It is very important that we have current information in case we need to get in touch. New information will require you to complete an updated demographics form but Ms. Bawar, in the front office, can support you with this process.
- A limited number of produce bags are available at the front of the school every Thursday afternoon, just before dismissal. These are available on a first come, first serve basis. This wonderful support is provided by First Alliance Church, and we would like to remind families that this support is for Patrick Airlie parents only. We are fortunate for this support, but it is for our school community only.
- If you have any concerns or questions, your student’s classroom teacher should be your first point of contact. You can reach out by email or phone. We ask that you give the classroom teachers 24 hours to respond as they are teaching most of the day. We work as a team at Patrick Airlie and if further supports are required, teachers will involve administration to achieve the best possible success for each student. We very much appreciate when families are involved and we can respectfully work together to support our students and their learning.
- Kindergarten registration is ongoing and we encourage anyone with children ready to start school in the 2023-2024 school year to please complete registration as soon as they can. Confirmed registrations are vital to help us plan for the upcoming year.
- As always, please reach out with your questions. Thank you for your continued support and teamwork.

| Dear Families,
Welcome to February! I hope this message finds you well. Now that we have settled back into routines, following winter break, staff and students are in the midst of many new learning opportunities. I was proud to review our first semester report cards over the last couple weeks, there has been growth and learning for all our students. Thank you to our staff who work diligently to create learning opportunities and support for all our students. Our grade 5 students had the chance to visit the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre this week for Police School. They enjoyed the trip and were happy to share their stories and experiences. Stay tuned as we get closer to spring, all our teachers are considering some upcoming field trip opportunities to support their classroom lessons. I would like to take an opportunity to remind you about some important details and dates for the month ahead: Firstly, a reminder that student Report Cards are still available online, through your MyCBE Account (often referred to as your PowerSchool account). If you need help signing up for this account or are having trouble viewing report cards, please contact the main office for support, Ms. Bawar, our fantastic admin secretary is happy to lend a hand with this. It is important that all parents/guardians have this account as it will be something utilized throughout your child's schooling for report cards, school fees, parent teacher conference booking, along with marks and attendance as they get older. Report cards will only be available, for online parent access, between Jan 30 and Feb 3. Save the file or take a picture if you would like to save this document. An additional reminder about attendance. It is so very important that your children are attending on a regular basis. If for some reason they cannot be here, please call the attendance line, 403-777-8220 ext: 1 to report your child's absence. Please give their name (spelling the last name), class and reason for their absence. It is also helpful for you to tell us who is calling in the absence. When signing out early, advanced notice is appreciated and parents/guardians must come to the main office to collect their child. Please see the attached tips sheet from CBE that is important for us all to review. We would ask that any families who have moved, changed their phone numbers or who have new emergency contacts for their child, please contact the main office. It is very important that we have the most up to date info, in case of an emergency. During the latter part of February our grade 4 and 5 students will be completing the Alberta Education Assurance Survey. This survey asks them about their experiences at school and their opinions about learning. Teachers will also complete this survey along with grade 4 parents. If your child is in grade 4 please watch your mailbox, in the coming weeks, for a letter from the Alberta government with survey details. It can be completed on paper or online and is available in a number of languages. This is important data and we ask that all grade 4 parents complete this. We are currently accepting Kindergarten registrations for the 2023-2024 school year. This is completed onlinebut the main office can support by answering questions or helping with getting you set up online. If you have younger children needing to register, we encourage you to complete this task as soon as possible. We would like to take this opportunity to send a shout out to First Alliance Church who support our school community through weekly snack bags for every student. They also provide a limited number of produce bags which are available, on a first-come-first-serve-basis at the front of the school. This resource is available at the end of the school day, around 3pm. We are so very thankful for this tremendous support. We have some February Spirit Days coming up so mark your calendars! Thanks to all those who participated. We will be announcing more Spirit Days for the upcoming months. Stay tuned!
We want to remind families of the importance of consistent attendance. As a school, we are required to monitor attendance and work with families when increased absences become a concern. We understand children get sick and appointments crop up, but we want to work with all our families to ensure students are here consistently and we are supporting student success. Attached to this email are some tips for families. If you have any questions about attendance, please reach out to your child’s teacher or administration to discuss.
There are still some families who have not submitted updated demographics forms for 2022-2023. Please contact the office to obtain and complete. The office must be notified of any updated contact information (phone numbers, address, court documents) so that our records are up to date, and we can best support our families.
For pick-up and drop-off, a reminder to wait for your children at their designated spot, either at the south end of the building near the parking lot or the gate near the front door. If there is a change to pick-up, please phone the office before 3pm to notify us. Another concern at pick-up is parking and traffic. Safety is extremely important, and we have significant concerns when there is a crowd at entrance and dismissal. Pedestrians, please utilize crosswalks, look both ways before crossing and do not stop in the middle of the road. Motorists, please park in designated areas, avoid parking at corners, avoid blocking crosswalks. Please stop in a safe location for loading and unloading children. Thank you for keeping our children and community safe! We all have a role to play. Kindergarten registration has started for the 2023-2024 school year. If you have children beginning Kindergarten in the fall, we encourage you to complete registration in the coming weeks. This process is now done online through School Engage. Please follow this link for details. The office can provide support with questions or directions.
CBE communicated the 2023-2024 school calendar last month. To view this calendar, please go to the following link. Please note, there will not be a modified calendar, rather schools will all be on the traditional calendar. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with the school. | Spring has sprung at Patrick Airlie School! Despite the extra snow that we have had late this year, we are definitely recognizing the anticipation of the warmer weather and the increased energy that Spring brings us each year. At this time of year, it can be easy to feel like we are nearing the end of the school year. The truth is, we still have more than 20% of the school year to go! This means we need to stay focused and continue working to support our students in their learning and growth, just as we always do. At school, we are starting to see the gains that our students are have due to the hard work that has occurred at school and the support that occurs at home. Please remember that we need all children to come to school prepared for learning. This still means having proper outdoor clothing even when it seem nice enough. Even though it is nice in the morning, it can turn cold and wet later in the day. It is best to be prepared. Being prepared means proper clothing, proper lunch and snacks when possible and proper safety wear if riding bicycles and scooters to school. Helmets are a must for safety. We are looking forward to a strong Spring session from now to the end of June. We hope that the Spring and nice weather, will allow us to come together in some positive community ways. All the best
