Principal's Message

March/April Post

As a community, we have met many challenges during this school year; however, we have also achieved many successes.  Our students are resilient, compassionate young learners.  They show care and kindness to each other in an environment of mask wearing, physical distancing, hand sanitizing and “air" hugging.  We marvel at the way our students accept new ways of learning through virtual presentations, google classroom assignments, classroom tasks and school wide virtual celebrations.  Penbrooke Meadows students come to school ready to learn because of the on-going time commitment our families pour into their own children's learning.  Parents, thank you for continuing to support your child's education.  When parents, families and educators work together, we can ensure that all students feel welcomed, safe and supported at school.
We are all partners in education!
Below are a few reminders and calendar updates for March and April.
Spring:  Now that it is spring, it is lighter outside in the mornings.  We have noticed that students are arriving earlier than the relaxed entry time of 7:45 a.m.  There will be no access into the school before 7:45 a.m.  Please do not send your child(ren) to school early as there is no supervision outside until 7:45 am.
Parking Lot:  Calgary Board of Education signs are posted at the entrance of the parking lot allowing only CBE employee parking access.  Please do not park or drive into the parking lot to drop off or pick up your children.  Please adhere to the posted signs for the safety of all our school community.
Masks:  Please send your child(ren) to school each day with a clean mask. Your support in supplying your own child with a clean mask is greatly appreciated.
Water bottle:  Parents, please send your child with a clean, plastic water bottle for school.  Due to Covid restrictions, water fountains are closed for drinking.  Students are only able to fill their own plastic water bottle with water. Thank you.
Thursday, March 25 – Parent Evening Conferences
Friday, March 26 – Parent Conferences, No School for Student Monday, March 29 – Monday, April 5 – Spring Break Tuesday, April 6 – School resumes
Wednesday, April 21 – School Council Virtual meeting (Microsoft Teams link sent on April 21)
Monday, April 26 – Professional Development Day – No school for students
The staff at Penbrooke Meadows would like to wish our families a safe, healthy and restful spring break.
Take care
Karon Hayes                                              Principal

Every year many CBE schools participate in a Terry Fox Run. In 2020, our schools raised an incredible $163,886.64 for cancer research. Thank you to all of our students, staff and school communities who have kept Terry’s dream alive 40 years after his journey began! #WeAreCBE

RT @UsihChristopher: We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make this learning shift for next week. While it is yet another significant change, we hope that it will serve to reduce the current learning disruptions that are continuing to occur in our schools.

Starting Monday, April 19 students in Grades 7-12 will transition to at-home learning for at least two weeks. #yycbe #WeAreCBE

RT @DalhousieCBE: Social distancing requirements hampering reading buddies? No problem! Our @DalhousieCBE Gr 4/5 HUB students recorded read alouds for younger students to listen to. Authentic audience and sense of ownership and pride! #SomosDalhousie #WeAreCBE @yycbedu @CBElanguages

Each year Alberta Education sends an important survey to parents/guardians of students in Grades 4, 7 and 10. The results are used to assess satisfaction with the quality of education & we use the information to improve teaching and learning. #yycbe
