Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Learning Commons / Library

The purpose of the school learning commons is to foster a positive and creative attitude toward lifelong learning and to develop the skills needed to pursue that learning. Students are taught research skills using a variety of methods, technologies and reference materials. In addition to encouraging and developing information literacy, the learning commons program aims to foster an appreciation of literature and a love of reading.

Our School's Borrowing Policy

The learning commons is open to all students, staff, and parents during school hours. Two books may be signed out at a time. The loan period is two weeks with an opportunity for renewal or exchange at any time. Please encourage your children to take responsibility for their library books while they have them at home by helping to locate a safe place to store books away from pets and small children.

Our School's Overdue Policy

Students are responsible for returning all resources on time. If resources are late, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Reminder to the student.
  2. A letter, email or telephone call to the parent(s).
  3. Request for payment for lost or damaged items (based upon depreciated value).
  4. Loss of borrowing privileges until the problem is resolved.
