Communication
Parents are the child’s first teachers and home continues to be a major educating influence. Our goal is to forge strong connections between home and school. Studies show that students who are academically successful tend to receive consistent support from parents. Three things parents can do to increase the child’s achievement are:
- Be positive role models for your child
- Have daily conversations about school
- Set and clarify expectations and consequences
We strive to have ongoing communication with our parents. Parents desiring a conference with teachers or administrators are asked to contact the school in advance by note or phone call so that a mutually convenient time can be arranged. Parents can contact their child’s teacher or administration if they have concerns regarding behaviour, actions or attitudes of staff or volunteers working at Ranchlands School.
All Kindergarten to Grade 6 students use some form of regular home/school communication. Each teacher will set this up in September and then share it with parents. Students, teachers and parents are expected to engage in regular home/school communication.
School updates will be made weekly to the website. In addition, there will be a weekly principal message to inform parents about the learning at our school that is accessible through the website. Parents will be notified when changes are made through Twitter. Parents who do not have access to the internet are invited to come to the school to view the site, or request a copy of the calendar and upcoming events from the office.
Uninterrupted learning time is a priority so students will only be called to the phone or given messages in cases of emergency. Parents and students are requested to plan after school arrangements prior to coming to school. Messages regarding changes to routines should be communicated to the teacher.
