August 26 Welcome Back Message

Welcome to the new school year and a special welcome to those families that are new to our wonderful school community. We hope that the summer was good to you and that you had the opportunity to experience life in a more normalized manner than we have in the last many months.  I know many parents and students are eagerly waiting to see their friends, meet their teacher and embark upon another year of learning. We cannot wait to see your kids again!

Covid protocol updates:  We will continue to follow the same health protocols that we left off with in June. All CBE schools will continue to have students and staff wearing masks indoors, we will emphasize the need to physically distance, and continue with hand washing/sanitizing routines. We will also have additional cleaners who sanitize high contact points throughout the day.  We will also maintain cohorts with each homeroom class as well as have staggered lunchtimes and recess breaks.  Please continue to use the daily checklist to determine if your child is ill and should stay home – see attached.  At this time, volunteers and artists in residency are permitted in schools when scheduled to take place – please no drop-ins.  The CBE will re-evaluate these protocols as they work closely with AHS to determine the best safety protocols for staff and students.  Each day parents will need to complete the daily checklist at home and keep their child home if the checklist indicates so – no need to send us copies as this is on the honor system.  If your child becomes ill while at school, parents will be contacted and required to pick their child up within one hour.

Each school year is new and exciting as we establish new teams that work thoughtfully to create warm, welcoming and inspiring learning communities within our school.  At Royal Oak School, we will continue to design engaging tasks that are directed towards supporting students' level of positive well-being and inspires them to take risks in their learning and be the best person they can be.

At the time of writing this, we have had 28 new registrations since staffing in the spring and are working on completing class lists as quickly as we can.  On Monday afternoon, August 30th, teachers will be sending a school messenger message to welcome your child to their new classroom.  This message will contain information regarding procedures for the first day of school, what to bring and any other relevant information that you might need.

If you are driving to drop your child off at school, please be on the look out for students as they are often distracted by all the excitement going on.  We would ask that you do not park in the parking lot and remember to be considerate of our neighbours.

We look forward to a wonderful 2021-2022 school year.

Gord Hamby

Principal – Royal Oak School
