Illness

If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be expected to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.

Health Concerns

Please inform the school in writing of any special health concerns regarding your child/children. This is most important in case of allergies and when students are unable to participate in physical activities. Where prescription medication is to be administered by school staff, this CBE form must be completed. Forms are also available at the school office.

Medical information is completed at the beginning of each school year. If your child’s medical condition changes during the year, please update their information at the office and with your child’s teacher. If your child has an Epi-pen or an asthma puffer, we need to be informed.  

Allergies

Please make sure that the office and your child’s teacher are informed of any allergies that may affect your child’s health and safety.

We are an allergy aware school.  We ask that if your child has a severe nut allergy to please notify the school office.  Children are reminded to only eat what they bring to school and not to share treats in case of allergies.

We would like you to be aware that we have a number of students in the school with severe allergies and would greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us to ensure the wellness of these students. We cannot legally guarantee a nut-free environment so we must remind both parents and students about the possibility of nuts causing severe allergic reactions in some people. We encourage all to be sensitive to this issue. Children are also reminded to eat only what they bring and not to share treats in case of allergies.  

Injury

The safety of all children is extremely important to us! Safety rules and consistent expectations help us to ensure the well-being of students, staff and visitors. All of our staff members have First Aid training. Minor injuries will be dealt with at school and parents will be notified of any incident by a phone call. If a more serious injury occurs, parents will be contacted immediately and appropriate actions will be implemented.

Crisis Information

If there is a serious health problem or some other family crisis, please make sure the office is aware of the situation so that we may handle these matters sensitively and understanding. 

Health Services

Health Services are provided to each school by a Public Health Nurse (PHN). The PHN will work with teachers to provide health services and education to the school, but are not on call to attend to medical emergencies or provide first aid unless by coincidence they happen to be on site at the time of the occurrence. If a child becomes ill or is injured during the school
day, school staff with first aid certification will provide first aid and assess the extent of the injury. 

Sometimes a band-aid, ice pack and/or a rest are sufficient supports to allow the student to return to class. If students are presenting more serious injuries or illnesses (or experiencing significant discomfort), parents will be called to make arrangements for picking up the child. In situations where there is any doubt at all about the extent of the illness or injury or parents cannot be notified, an ambulance will be called to transport the student to a medical facility immediately.
