Volunteer with Us

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Contact us about ways you can volunteer with our school.

Visit the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check. (Please note, guest speakers or visitors to the school, and parents/guardians assisting their own child only are not considered to be volunteers and do not require a police information check.)

Volunteering for an Off-Site Activity

If you want to volunteer for an off-site activity, please keep in mind:

  • Volunteers on an activity are considered representatives of the Calgary Board of Education and are subject to the same expectations as staff
  • Volunteers are subject to the requirements of CBE Administrative Regulation 5003 – Volunteers, which includes an application and a police security screening check
  • Volunteers are covered by the CBE’s liability insurance policy while performing their assigned duties
  • Volunteers are covered by WCB while performing their duties
  • Volunteers receive direction from and are accountable to the teacher-in-charge

Royal Oak School Volunteer Opportunities

The staff and students are Royal Oak School welcome and encourage parents and community members to volunteer their time in any capacity during the school year. Volunteers have proven to be a valuable asset to the overall success of the school community and the experience provides volunteers with an insight into the total operation of the school.

All CBE school volunteers are required to obtain police security clearance status. Bring in your valid photo identification such as a driver’s license/passport for school staff to copy. You will then receive an email to complete the application. The application is processed by Calgary Police Service. Please choose "share with CBE" so that Royal Oak School is notified about your clearance status.

Security clearance is valid for a period of five years and may take from 3 to 6 weeks to be cleared through the Calgary Police Services. We encourage everyone to pursue the clearance process. It has been our experience that unexpected opportunities can arise for parents and community members to volunteer and without having obtained prior clearance, the school is placed in the unfortunate position to deny participation in the event.

Our hope is to continue to maintain a strong and vibrant core of volunteers. Classroom teachers and the school at large will communicate the many anticipated volunteer opportunities through our School Council Volunteer Coordinator that will require your support. Every year, there is a survey to be completed by volunteers in order to update information on our data base. Please fill it out so the Volunteer Coordinator has the most up to date information. Please visit this page to sign up for volunteering.
