2021-2022 Year End Reflection

Thank you to Saddle Ridge School Community,
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our school community and the Saddle Ridge School Council/Saddle Ridge School Society for all your ongoing support this school year. We welcomed 585 students back to in-person learning this year and continued to work through the changes a global pandemic brought to our school. During the year, we had many changes to our school community and welcomed some new teachers to our staff. These positions were created as each school in The Calgary Board of Education was given additional funding for learning disruption caused by the pandemic. Our grade one, two and three students were given an opportunity to receive additional literacy and numeracy support to help enhance their skills.
This year our School Development Plan has continued to focus on literacy, math and well-being. Teachers have worked with each other and students to develop a variety of instructional strategies that continue to improve student writing across the curriculum areas. Students in kindergarten to grade four took part in a variety of activities that not only increased their writing skills but gave students an opportunity to practice their oral language skills as well. This year we developed a math goal at our school which stated student achievement in procedural fluency will increase. It was exciting to see teachers working with one another and students in engaging number sense activities such as games, math talks, and problem-solving in order to reach our goal. Alongside our math and literacy goals we continued to focus on student well-being at our school. At our school we pride ourselves on students feeling a sense of belonging and a strong connection to one another. We are excited about the progress our students have made and will be continuing these goals into the 2022-2023 school year.
As we finish this school year, we are also in the process of planning for next year. We look forward to welcoming most of our families back to Saddle Ridge School in September. Just before the first day of school, you will be receiving a "Welcome Email" from your child's teacher. This will introduce students to their new teacher and include classroom location, entry door information, pick-up information and other important start of the year instructions.
At the end of the school year, we will be saying farewell to Mrs. Karla Sanderson (Learning Leader), Mrs. Gurjinder Samra (Learning Disruption Teacher) and Ms. Kim Grant (Learning Disruption Teacher). It has been a pleasure having these excellent teachers at Saddle Ridge School and we wish them all the best in their new schools. We will also be saying farewell to a group of wonderful temporary contract teachers who helped fill various positions within our school.
All our staff at Saddle Ridge School would like to take a final opportunity to wish you and your family a summer filled with love, laugher and happiness.
We look forward to seeing everyone back to school on September 1, 2022.
