Sam Says: Week of September 26 – 30, 2022

Happy Friday Everyone! It was fantastic to see all our students and their families at our Meet the Teacher and Open House last night. Meet the Teacher is a great opportunity for teachers and parents/guardians to connect, put faces to names and begin the collaboration that will allow for the best possible support for our students. It was a pleasure for me to see many of you in the gym. One topic I covered quite quickly was how our work at the school aligns with the CBE's Three-Year Education Plan. I recommend that you look at the following documents that explain how we work towards three important outcomes identified in the Three-Year Plan: the Literacy Framework, the Mathematics Framework, and the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework. These documents describe the approaches and content that your child's teachers will use at school in these areas.

Here are some of the items we would like to highlight this week:

Orange Shirt Day

Next Friday, September 30, is Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The purpose of this day is to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. As stated above, this is an important part of our work with students in the CBE.

At Sam Livingston, we ask that students wear orange shirts on Thursday, September 29. Students will participate in classroom activities throughout the week and attend an assembly on Thursday, September 29.

Scholastic Book Orders

I would like to thank Christine van Ringen-Oke, our Library Assistant, and Fran McIntyre, our Lead Lunch Supervisor, for their work organizing and running our Book Fair this week. If you would like to order, you may still do so here: https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5180103

Picture Day

Picture Day is Tuesday, September 27 starting first thing in the morning. Each student will have three individual portraits taken, and an online order form will be sent home the same day.

Volunteering

Look for communication from your child's teacher, School Council and Sam Says, or check our website (Get Involved - Volunteer) for opportunities to volunteer. We currently are looking for volunteers for our Popcorn Days this year. Please sign up using this link
