Sam Says - Week of October 17-21, 2022

Happy Friday Parents and Guardians,

It is a Canadian stereotype to talk about the weather constantly, but it is hard not to comment when it is 23C on October 17, which is what the forecast is for next week! It is good but a concern if it is part of a trend to a warmer climate and not just nice weather. It definitely makes the mornings much more pleasant for staff, students, and parents when we are waiting outside for school to start or are on supervision.

Fun Lunch

This past week we held our first Fun Lunch. We would like to thank and acknowledge our volunteers and Healthy Hunger coordinators for their work and time to make our first Fun Lunch of the year run smoothly. Merci! We remind parents to register their child at https://healthyhunger.ca to participate in the Fun Lunch program. If your child is not at school on the day of Fun Lunch, they will receive their lunch the following day.

Photo Retakes

Photo retakes are on Tuesday, October 25. If you would like your child to have a retake, please let the teacher know by email. Please put PHOTO RETAKE in the subject line.

Halloween Dance

We are excited to announce the return of the legendary Sam Livingston School Halloween Dance!  It will be held on Thursday, October 27th, in the gym. Tickets are $5/person through healthyhunger.ca until October 22, or $7 at the door. All attendees require a ticket and siblings are welcome to attend. Please buy online if you can and take a screenshot or print your receipt to show ticket number proof of payment.  Bring your dancing shoes and costumes to have fun in support of our school!  There will be a nut free bake sale and refreshments for cash purchase. All money raised will be returned to School Council, money from the bake sale to support Grade 4 Farewell.

Field Trips

As educators we are also trying to provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students. One way that teachers do this is by organizing field trips that allow students to engage with the subject matter in an authentic and meaningful way. Teachers have begun planning field trips again, and we need your help for them to be successful, either by volunteering or by paying the fee for the trip. When you receive notification about a trip from your child's teacher, please ensure that you access your MyCBE portal to process the required payment. It is important to note that we do not allow the cost of a trip to prevent a student from attending the trip. All children in the public education system must be able to have equal access to educational opportunities. Please contact the office if you require financial assistance for any school field trip or in-class learning opportunity.

Wishing you all a restful weekend,

Rayna Bergerman (Assistant Principal)
Scott Fehr (Principal)
