Principal's Message

Sam Says: Week of October 3 - 7, 2022

Bonjour Sam parents and guardians,
Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. The school will be closed. At Sam Livingston, we marked the day today, September 29th, by wearing orange shirts and holding an assembly. Students sang and displayed the work they have done this week to gain and express their understanding of the meaning of this day and the larger idea of “what can we do?“. There are many other events happening to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation including online events, and other events in Calgary and across Canada. Some examples include:    Calgary Foundation – Truth and Reconciliation Week and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Events
Trellis Society -  Orange Shirt Day Virtual Events
National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation -  'Remembering the Children' Live broadcast
The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund – Online Resources
Expectations for Adults in the School  We would like to clarify some of our processes around our expectations for parents and other adults when they are in the school. Most importantly, all adults must check in at the office when they enter the building. All doors remain locked and closed throughout the day. All visitors, including parents, must enter through the main doors and check in at the office. If you arrive at the school after 8:00 a.m. you will find that the entry doors for your child's grade are locked and closed. Bring your child to the front doors, and they will be welcomed into the school in the main office. If you are picking up your child, volunteering in the school, would like to check the lost and found, or have another reason to come to the school, please always check in at the office first. There are occasions where we will leave the front doors open for parents and adults to come into the school without checking into the office. This would be for events such as assemblies and student learning conferences. On those occasions, we will place a sign on the door indicating it is open and to please come in. Lost and Found Our lost and found area is near the front doors of the school. After you check in at the office, you may proceed to the table and have a look. As always, if you label your child's clothing and other items, we will be able to reunite them with your child. Items that are not reclaimed within a month will be donated to another school in need. Please feel free to come and check if you suspect you are missing something. Important Dates Friday, September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, School is Closed
