The month of September has gone by so quickly and it appears that the warm weather will be with us a little while longer! One never knows what to expect weather-wise in Calgary, so please be sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the many changes in weather that may occur.
The first round of Learning Conferences that occurred in September were very successful. Thank you to all the parents/guardians that made it a priority to participate in a phone conference with their child's teacher. Conferences are an integral part of reporting student progress in the CBE. Along with conferences, we ensure ongoing communication between home and school, two report cards (January and June) and formal learning conferences in November and March rounding out the reporting process. Should you have any questions about how your child is progressing at school throughout the year, please contact the classroom teacher either by phone or email.
As part of their daily physical activity, students at Scenic Acres have been fortunate to receive soccer skills training from PASS with Soccer Scott during the week of September 28 to October 1. We'd like to thank the Scenic Acres School Enhancement Society (SASES) for making this authentic opportunity possible for all of our students.
Thank you to the students and parents who are taking advantage of the great weather and are walking or riding their bikes to school. Our traffic congestion in front of the school seems to be at a moderate level. We appreciate everyone using the appropriate crosswalks and not crossing the street illegally. There have been a couple of close calls with kids running out between parked cars, encouraged by their parents to do so. We ask that you work together with us to keep our students, your children, safe and follow the traffic laws appropriately.
Did you know that the students and families of Scenic Acres School raised $925.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation? Students and staff ran many laps during their PE classes on September 24 for our Terry Fox Run this year. Because the students participated with such enthusiasm, we will be scheduling a Crazy Hair Day in celebration. Way to go, SAS!!
Before I close, I would just like to remind parents/guardians that October 9 is a Professional Learning Day for teachers - students do not attend school. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend spent with family and friends. We have much to be thankful for and I feel so fortunate to be a part of this great learning community.
