Welcome back to the 2019/2020 school year at SVS. We are anticipating student enrollment will be approximately 657 this school year by the end of September. Classroom configurations have not changed from the spring organisation of 25 classroom 1-6, Skill and 2 K rooms. We will be operating with a reduced music program from 1.0 to .6 of a position. We are happy to welcome Ms. Moncrieff to SVS who will be working with classrooms once per week to deliver music instruction this school year. As well, we are excited to have Mrs. Sutherland as part of the K team.
Lunchroom will look a little different this year, as we move back to staggered eating times. Division 1 will eat first and then go outside to play and Division 2 students will be outside first and eating second. Students in division 1 will be in the multipurpose space and DLC. Division 2 students will be in some classrooms, DLC and outside room 18.
Starting in October, we are going to attempt to reduce SVS ecological footprint by moving towards a “Pack it in and Out” philosophy. What we ask is that students bring lunch/snack in reusable containers .Once the item is consumed the packaging will be put back into lunch kits and returned home for recycling. If parents could provide a locking baggie for compost such as apple cores, yogurt tubes etc. they will also return home with the student for composting at home.
Please take a minute to go to our school website and view your child's classroom blog. This is a new way of communicating to you of what is happening in our classrooms. It can be found under the Teaching and Learning heading and then in the Departments and classes tab. Please note that Ms. Boston's site is requiring some technical updates and therefore you can visit Mrs. McGivern's blog for her information for the moment.
A big thanks to SVS Parent Council for hosting our K parents during the first 2 days of staggered entry and any other new families to SVS. It was a pleasure to meet our new families and have them meet key staff members and tour the building when it was full of kids excited to learn new things and meet new friends as the year begins.
Parent teacher interviews will be held on Thursday September 19th from 2-4pm and again from 5-7pm. Students will be dismissed at 12:10 ( our regular lunch hour) on that day. Interviews will continue on Friday September 20th from 8:30-1:30pm. Please contact Barbara Hordern at firstname.lastname@example.org if you require a translator by Tuesday, September 10th.
