We are two months into our 21-22 school year and we are so grateful to still be together. There have been many rich learning opportunities/experiences!
SJF students have been taking advantage of the weather and taken up opportunities for learning off the land in different core classes. Both in Science and Humanities students have been journaling and making observations. Phys. Ed has had the opportunity to use the outdoor space as a third classroom throughout the fall, and on Oct. 1st we had a beautiful day to recognize/run/walk for Terry Fox. It was great to see students create banners, cheers, and do team building activities to celebrate Terry Fox's legacy and learn about different ways to learn from his strengths.
Building up to Sept 30th National day for Truth and Reconciliation students had different opportunities to read books, listen to elders, gather research, reflect, and take part in arts-centred learning activities. There was evidence in our ACL classes, CSSI/TASC, and LEAD that we found out more and came to a greater understanding through these shared experiences. Throughout the school there was beautiful art work as part of this special day. We look forward to the ongoing process of building indigenous foundational knowledge as a school community.
Our school volleyball teams and volleyball club have been really successful. Students on teams and as part of the club have the opportunity to develop their volleyball skills and come together with coaches to play against other schools. Please ask your students and take a look at the week at a glance to see upcoming club/team opportunities for students in grade 5-9.
Both SJF school council and the Music parent's association were able to gather virtually in Sept and Oct. It was great to see so many faces! Thank you to our parent community for your ongoing commitment to our students!
As we head towards cooler temperatures please be sure your child has appropriate clothing so that they are prepared in coming on and off the bus, and for second half of lunch outdoors. We will be opening the school at 8:55 for students who arrive in the morning, and the first half of lunch we will have a space for each grade to each their lunch indoors. Students will be expected to head outside the second half of lunch unless we have inclement weather (which will be announced).
Thank you for your ongoing support. I'm proud to be a part of such a creative community!
