| Hello SWL Students and Families, It is hard to believe that we are already experiencing the deep freeze of winter after having such beautiful weather for fall! This week we do have a few messages that I will outline below. As always, please reach out should you need further clarification on any of the items below. Inclement Weather Days When the weather dips below -20 C (including wind chill), students are asked to remain indoors for lunch as the risk of frostbite increases and can occur on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes. We are asking on these days that you send students with a lunch as our cafeteria can only accommodate a limited amount of students before hot items run out. Should you choose to send money with your child, all prices are included below so that you know how much money you need to provide your child with. We ask that students do not come to school with more money than they need to purchase their own lunch. Parent Council This Monday we had our second School Council meeting of the year. School councils perform an important advisory role at schools. They help ensure the parent and community perspective is represented in school decision-making. In addition, school councils share information about the school with the community. At this month's school council meeting, there was a focus on how to use casino funds to support the whole school community. In the past, school council has paid all busing costs to lessen the cost that families need to pay for field trips. School council has asked for greater clarity around how much this would be for the year to see if it is still a good use of school council funds. On January 16, school council will vote on whether or not they will continue to pay for busing costs. All parents are encouraged to attend that evening to have a voice in a decision that will impact them. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent teacher interviews will occur on November 24th and 25th. On November 24th, they will be from 4:30 – 8:00pm and will be in person. On November 25th, they will be from 8:30 to 2:00pm and will be online via TEAMS. Bookings will open on Monday, November 21st.
