Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 and 9 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing.

Provincial Achievement Tests Cancelled

Due to the continued disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CBE will not be administering Grade 6 and 9 Provincial Achievement Tests in the 2020-21 school year. We believe this is the right decision in a year where direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health continues to evolve rapidly.

Teachers will remain focused on delivering the programs of study for all courses, and will continue to assess student achievement based on the grade level outcomes as determined by the Province of Alberta.

Provincial Achievement Tests

In January, May and June of each year, Grade 6 and 9 students throughout the province and here at SWL will write Provincial Achievement Tests in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

Attached at the side of this page is a letter for parents regarding these exams.

Below you will see the PAT exam schedule for SWL.

SWL Provincial Achievement Test Dates

Please note Provincial Achievement Tests have been cancelled for the 2019-2020 school year.

All students must be in the classrooms by 9 am.  Attendance will be taken and instructions will be given at that time.  Any student arriving after the start time of the exam must report directly to the office for instructions.  The Provincial Achievement Tests are timed tests so it is imperative that students arrive on time.  Students are required to sit the exam for 2 hours prior to being dismissed.  Students who need additional time are welcome to take it.   You can help your child do well on the tests if you ensure they are well rested, have eaten a good breakfast and come to school with a bottle of water, a healthy snack, and a book to read.  School bells will be turned off during exam times and we will not be able to call any students to the office as this interrupts students who are still writing the exam.
