Welcome Back to the 2021-2022 School Year

We hope everyone was able to enjoy their summer.  It is very exciting knowing we will be welcoming students back to Somerset and are looking forward to working with families to ensure continued student growth and excellence.

On Wednesday, September 1 at 8:10am, teachers will begin meeting their students outside students assigned entry / exit points.  Each grade level door will be labelled, and teachers will have a large sign with their name on it to help you see them. This is where students will meet, then enter the school, every morning and where your parents / guardians can meet you at the end of the day.

We want to assure you that the Somerset staff and administration continue to focus on health, safety, and learning.  We are following the health protocols from Alberta Health Services and Calgary Board of Education.  Last week, you received a message from Christopher Usih, Chief Superintendent of Schools, which shared information about the health protocols all CBE schools will be following.   Below is a link to this message, please take time to read all the information provided to our CBE families:

https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/2021-22-school-re-entry-information.aspx

I would like to highlight a few key points:

  • There is mandated masking indoors for all staff and students (K to 12) for the start of the 2021-22 school year.
  • No parents/visitors will be permitted in CBE schools at this time.
  • All staff and students who present with COVID-19 symptoms need to stay home and follow AHS directions.
  • Frequent hand washing and sanitizing will continue to occur.
  • We are maintaining our cohorts from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

You can expect an email and phone call starting on Monday, August 30 from your child’s homeroom teacher outlining the first day as well as other pertinent information for returning to school. If you have not received an email or phone call from your child’s teacher by Tuesday, August 31 at noon please call Somerset School to let us know.

We are very excited to see everyone Wednesday, September 1 at 8:10am, and are looking forward to another great year at Somerset School!

Sincerely,

Nathan Bane and Nathan deBoer
