One way parents/guardians can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on our school’s parent society. Parent societies are a formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds for the school. A society is a separate legal entity from the school council. The school principal is not part of this group. More information can be found in our CBE Administrative Regulation 5001 – School Councils and School/Parent Societies.

Sunalta School Parents Society

Our Parent Society is known as the Sunalta School Parents Society

Sunalta School Parents Society, or “SSPS”, is a registered charity run by parent volunteers that raises money to fund enrichment for your children. The SSPS Board consists of a President, Treasurer and Secretary. Every parent or guardian of a student at Sunalta is automatically a member of the Sunalta School Council (SSC) and SSPS. SSPS uses the funds it raises to offer outstanding enrichment opportunities that our school is known for, beyond the base curriculum, such as: artists in residence, sport and outdoor education, technology, cultural and leadership opportunities. Every activity we sponsor meets the larger school vision, and depends on the resources and volunteer hours donated by our school parents.

Programs We Support

The School Council/Parents Society offer special programs at Sunalta by providing funding, leadership and resources in collaboration with the school.

These programs include:

  • Residencies: Story-telling Robotics, Quest Theatre
  • Tennis, Swimming, In-Line Skating
  • Classroom enhancement supplies, Agendas, Library books
  • Music and Phys Ed Equipment
  • Technology - Smartboards, computers, software, iPads
  • Curriculum enhancements as recommended by the Sunalta staff
