Sunnyside Weekly - November 26, 2021
Dear Sunnyside Families,The first month of school has flown by with establishing routines and getting to know each other. Teachers have gained insight into students' current academic abilities by administering diagnostic assessments for literacy and mathematics. This information is helping shape teachers' plans for the year. As a school, we are committed to improving student learning through responsive instruction and using assessment data to guide our decisions about the next best steps for each child. Teachers will formally share information about your children's learning at the end of November at conferences. We know that parents want to be involved in their children's education and hope that you have been exploring Google Classroom with your children to find out what has been happening in their classrooms. If you have questions about your child's learning, please contact their teacher. Teachers have also been building community with their classes and finding ways to express feelings and develop empathy for others. We have had very rich learning about Terry Fox, Truth and Reconciliation and emotions, often using a picture book as a spark. This week, conversations about gratitude have been abundant throughout the school. Students are very aware of what matters the most in their lives. Here are a few things that some grade 1 and 2 students in Room 6 are grateful for:“I am thankful for my family because they make me feel safe and sound."“I am thankful for belongings because I am glad I am living."“I am thankful for art!"“I am thankful for nature because all of the cute, cuddly animals. I am thankful for sisters and dogs because there is someone to play with." On behalf of Sunnyside staff, I would like to wish all of our families a very happy Thanksgiving, full of what is most important to you. We are very thankful for all of you and for your trust in us to take care of your children every day. Krista SchmittPrincipal
