I hope that the Winter Break, while different than previous years, provided an opportunity to connect with loved ones and enjoy some downtime. I know the snowfall just prior to Christmas certainly provided the chance to enjoy some outdoor fun for many of the staff members since the temperatures were not too cold.
We are happy to say that by all accounts the At-Home Learning from January 5 – 8 went well, with teachers and all students able to connect to continue with regular instruction. Thank you so much to all of our families for your support and perseverance. Great team work everyone!
As noted on the scrolling news centre banner this week, we now have our Music Google Classroom set up and it is available for all in-person and Hub students. We hope you get a chance to log on and check it out.
While we are pleased with the success of At-Home Learning, it was great to see the smiling faces of the students as they walked into the school to resume in-person learning. It certainly is a lonely place without them here!
We started the new year with a Professional Learning Day where we continued with our work on designing rigorous and worthwhile inquiries. This work has been an important part of the School Development Plan for the past several years. I am excited about the learning experiences the teachers have planned for the next few months.
Over the next two weeks, teachers will be working on Report Cards. You will notice that the parent view of student assignments is no longer available during this time period. Once Report Cards are complete, this feature will be available again. All Report Cards will be provided digitally this year. To support a smooth role out, there will be a staggered distribution from February 1 – 5.
This week, we will begin our Kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 school year. Please see the information on the Sunnyside homepage or the CBE homepage for more information.
Finally, you will notice a change on the organization of our website's main page. The 'Weekly Message from the Office' sent out each Friday on School Messenger will now be available under the Principal's Messages, while student-focused news stories will be highlighted in the scrolling news centre banner. We look forward to sharing more student work in this way.
Stay safe and stay healthy!
