Good Morning Parents and Guardians,
My name is Bruce Johnston and I am currently the Acting Principal at Thomas B. Riley School. I am very excited to be here. We have yet to hear about who the successful incoming Principal is, and when they will arrive. We hope to introduce this person in the near future. As you are aware, Sanimar Sarpal is still on leave, and in her place we have Delaine Craig as Acting Assistant Principal. Delaine is an exceptional partner, and great to work with.
I wanted to let you know we have been working with a few issues related to start in the morning. There have been a handful of students arriving very early in the morning, 7:30ish. Students need to arrive around 7:45 AM and hopefully not any earlier, particularly in real cold weather. The school will be opening at 7:45 (no longer 7:50) to allow students to get into the school and into class on time. Another concern is that a number of students are arriving late to school. Period 1 begins at 8:00 AM every day, and our hope is that all students are sitting in their desks by 8:00 AM. A related concern is that a number of students will mill about the hallways without going to class on time. As a staff we will work together to move students more efficiently and quickly to class. We would very much appreciate your support with these items. Thank you!
I have been in conversation with our School Council Chair, Ms. Lorilee Scott and we will be moving the next School Council Meeting from Tuesday, March 7 to Tuesday, March 14, starting at 7:00 PM. Some agenda items include, the Playground/Athletic Court Expansion Project, the Casino, and plans for the June 21st Indigenous Day Celebration Pow Wow. Please remember, all parents are members of School Council. I look forward to meeting with you on March 14th.
Thanks for your support. Have a great weekend.
Bruce Johnston
