Welcome Back

As another school year commences I would like to welcome back our families who are returning, and those who will be new to our Thorncliffe Learning community. I am excited to start a new school year, especially with the removal of restrictions brought on by the pandemic. I believe our learning community will thrive this year as we continue to emphasize literacy, numeracy, and well-being.

Our dedicated teachers have been busy organizing, planning, and collaborating over the summer months to ensure the delivery of high-quality education to students. Teachers will officially be in the building starting August 29th. Please monitor your email early next week for a welcome letter from your child's teacher.

In previous years Thorncliffe has offered multi-graded classrooms; however, this year we are attempting to configure classes into straight grades. If successful Thorncliffe will consist of four TLC kindergarten, one community kindergarten, one grade 1, one grade 2, two grade 3, one grade 4, one grade 5, and one grade 6. Thorncliffe School will also continue operate one system class that consists of students in grades 4-6.

New Attendance Code Communication:

As part of CBE's commitment to “acknowledge and support the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action" (CBE Education Plan, 2021-24), a new attendance code has been introduced for the 2022/2023 school year. The new Cultural-Spiritual-Ceremonial (CSC) attendance code offers an excused absence from school to recognize and support Indigenous cultural revitalization for CBE students who self-identify as Indigenous, and their families.

I hope you and your family had a restful and revitalizing summer, and the staff at Thorncliffe School are excited to work with your family this school year.

Please contact me if you have questions or concerns

Sincerely,

Glen Steed

Principal
