Our School

Valley Creek is a dynamic, dual track middle school located in the heart of the community of Hidden Valley. The school offers a regular and French Immersion program for students in Grades 4 – 9. Students attending our school come predominantly from Hidden Valley. Some live within the walk limits, while others are either bussed or driven from local areas within our boundaries, including Hanson Ranch. We also accept French Immersion students from MacEwan Glen, Sandstone Valley, and Kincora.

The staff at Valley Creek is dedicated to personalizing student learning through meaningful engagement of the curriculum, using collaborative planning practices. The staff is currently exploring inquiry based learning, using an integrated disciplinary focus as a means to engage our learners.

Our goal is to enhance our learner’s ability to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively using multiple forms of literacy to represent and communicate understanding. We provide students with a curriculum that is engaging, examines big ideas, issues and questions in depth, and that has multiple entry points to accommodate all learners.

Charger Power

The Valley Creek motto, Charger POWER, captures the core values of our school:

Pride in our community
Opportunities to succeed
Wonder of Discovery
Eagerness to learn
Respect for all

Pillars of Respect

At Valley Creek, we believe that every child has a right to an education in an environment that is safe and caring. While all students have a right to an education, that right comes with, and demands, certain responsibilities and expectations for behaviour. To help our students assume responsibilities for their learning, we encourage development of self discipline through adherence to the three pillars of respect that require students to:

  • Respect self
  • Respect others
  • Respect the environment

Valley Creek School Name

"Valley" is a reference to the community name where the school is located, "Hidden Valley", while the "Creek" in the name refers to "Nose Creek", which runs through the community.

Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. In 2021, our school, along with all CBE schools made a TRC Commitment to Action. On June 21, 2022, we renewed our commitment, which can be found under Resources.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
