Our School

We celebrate that our students are very diverse. We have inclusive environments to meet the needs of our students. Our small student population contributes to our family atmosphere. We offer a full day kindergarten program that serves the families of Vista Heights.  Our staff collaborates to develop engaging, rigorous learning tasks and formative assessments that address the Alberta programs of study. We strive to support students to develop and refine critical thinking skills across the curriculum. We use digital technologies as tools to engage our students in higher-order thinking through complex, authentic, problem based tasks. Our school is well resourced with technology and thanks to a dedicated school council our technology resources continue to grow.  We organize our students for learning in multi-aged classrooms.  Teaching and learning is personalized for the individual abilities of every student.  We teach students not programs or grades.  We have a strong focus on Character education and highlight a virtue every month.

CBE Mission

Each student, in keeping with his or her individual abilities and gifts, will complete high school with a foundation of learning necessary to thrive in life, work and continued learning.

CBE Vision

The Calgary Board of Education is the dynamic learning community of choice. We provide quality learning opportunities and options. Our learners take ownership by discovering and developing their potential, passions and gifts. They take their place as lifelong learners and make a significant contribution within a complex, changing world.

CBE Values

Students come first.

We believe that everyone can learn. Each student is unique and worthwhile. We acknowledge, recognize and celebrate the diversity of our learners. Success for each and every student is the goal of our work.

Learning is our central purpose.

We believe that learning empowers students to achieve their potential. Attention to continuous improvement, high expectations, innovation and relationships will enable all students to reach their potential. Student learning is at the heart of everyone's work at the Calgary Board of Education.

Public education serves the common good.

Public education is essential for a vibrant democracy. The principles of democracy drive our accountability to the public and the public's participation in our work. Our school system is owned by and accountable to Calgarians and therefore, the Calgary Board of Education is accountable to Calgary taxpayers for using resources wisely to meet
students' learning needs.

Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a TRC Commitment to Action. On June 21, we renewed our commitment, which can be found under Resources.

Acknowledging the Land

We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani and the Kainai. We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
