Physical Education occurs daily at WO Mitchell School, in our ‘larger than life’ 1000 person capacity gymnasium. We have a vast inventory of equipment and teachers with physical education backgrounds lead programming.
Additionally, we offer enhanced opportunities:
- Division 1 students participate in a swimming lesson program every
- Division 2 students participate in a rollerblading program every year
- Kindergarten students have a specialized opportunity every year
We also offer athletic residencies, where professional athletes work with students. These opportunities are often funded by our generous School Council, and are organized by our teachers. The 2017-18 school-wide offerings include:
- Gymnastics
- Latin Dance
- Tennis
- Soccer
- Frisbee
- Cross Country Skiing (Grades 3 and 6)
Co-Curricular Enhancements
Recognizing that profound learning opportunities exist beyond our school building, staff seek enrichment possibilities that complement classroom learning. Our students participate in rich and diverse fieldtrips, and classroom teachers make applications to unique programs. For example, our Grade 5/6 students attend Outdoor School this year (a four-day/three-night excursion at Camp Chief Hector), some of our classes are attending Campus Calgary/Open Minds programs, and our Grade 4 students are involved in a fitness program sponsored by Good Life Fitness.
