Good Day Parents,

It is my pleasure to announce that Karlee Zelmer, our Learning Leader, will be our new Acting Assistant Principal as of February 21, 2023. Ms. Zelmer comes with both current leadership experience as an Acting Assistant Principal and a deep knowledge of teaching and learning. Ms. Zelmer has been in Kindergarten as well as supporting West Springs School with our School Development Plan (SDP). This included supporting Grade 2 Literacy and Grade 4 mathematics to strengthen student skills and reduce class size for a portion of the day. However, with her new assignment as Acting Principal, Ms. Zelmer will continue to support Grade 2 students in literacy in the mornings and be in the office in the afternoons.

We have hired retired Assistant Principal and math teacher, Mr. Bob Vanderbeek to teach Grade 4 students math in the afternoons and reduce class size for a portion of the day as well as supporting in other classrooms and in the office as needed in the mornings.

Also, it has come to my attention that when I started in January, I neglected to announce that Mr. Scott Downing was hired to cover Ms. Zelmer’s Kindergarten class. My sincere apologies for this gap in communication. We welcome Mr. Downing who comes to us with a wealth of experience in Early Learning and is an instructor of Early Years Education at the Post Secondary level on his own time.

We have also hired Ms. Uzma Zubair as an Educational Assistant. Ms. Zubair comes to us from Erin Woods School and is well regarded in her skill in working with students and staff. She also is an accredited Behavior Support worker.

Our Educational Assistant Linda Deugau is leaving West Springs School for a position at Hidden Valley School. We wish her well in her new position.

We wish Mrs. Westgate all the best but she will not be returning on March 6 as was originally hoped for.

I will be continuing on as Acting Principal for the foreseeable future.
