We are excited to teach your child online! By now, many of our students are already on Brightspace for D2L and have been participating in online learning opportunities for some time.  Students are involved in discussion boards, posted lessons, live learning and continuing on with their studies. We are preparing your child for the next level. We are starting with core subjects, however your child's complimentary teachers have already been in touch with your student and will have more to share shortly.

Some advice for our Western families: 

  1. We recommend creating a routine with your family at home to access learning online. Getting up at the same time, getting ready and coming early to learning opportunities posted will help. All core teachers are posting a weekly plan on their D2L shell so you also can plan ahead. Please note that information will be posted regularly to the D2L site for core subjects. It is important for students to check each of their core courses daily for updates.  Accessing Brightspace D2L through Chrome versus other browsers appears to work better.
  2. With our video lessons, we have created a schedule for our teachers to use so that there is not a conflict for your student in accessing them. Teachers will communicate with the class directly when these will take place. See attached for schedule:WCHS Schedule.pdf ​​​​ We will always record any of these lessons so students can access them later. Video lessons are not the only form of learning we will be utilizing though and our planning will allow students some flexibility going forward.
  3. If students have concerns or issues related to D2L, CBE student email, Google docs or passwords, help information is available here:  https://cbe.ab.ca/support/Pages/Google-Apps-Gmail.aspx#q2  Ms. Rice our librarian is happy to provide individual assistance, as well.  Email her: ehrice@cbe.ab.ca or call the school at 403-228-5363 as we are here to help.
