Westgate School was built in 1960 with additions in 1964 and 1967. The school was named after the community in which it was built. Westgate School began offering programs in French Immersion in 1977. In September 2005, it became a single track, French Immersion School due to decreased enrolment in the regular program. The following year, a Spanish Bilingual Program was opened and Westgate became an official International Spanish Academy. Due to increased enrolment in both programs, the Spanish Bilingual Program relocated to Glenmeadows School in September 2018. Today, Westgate School has students from kindergarten to grade 6 in French Immersion.
