Principal's Message

Celebrations!

Spring is here!!  We hope everyone has enjoyed the beautiful weather as well as looking forward to some refreshing rain!
Staffing for next year has begun so we would appreciate you informing the school if you are aware of reasons that your children may not attend Pratt for the upcoming school year.  It is helpful as we plan for number of classes and CTF classes. Grades 6-8 should be making or have made their CTF choices for next year as the survey closes on May 8.
Your children should have been asked and submitted their learning partner choices for next year to their current teachers to guide creation of learning groups for next year.
We have now confirmed that Mr. Fisher will remain in place as the Math and Science teacher for 63 and 64 for the remainder of the year.  Ms. Goods is back in place with 91 and 92.
Basketball tournaments held at WDP provided students a fabulous opportunity for competition and families enjoyed being in the school to celebrate their skills.  Well done Mavs!  The servery staffed by our wonderful parent community, provided sustanence for players, families and fans and was much appreciated.  It was truly a gift to have Doug Swift, Marylynn Pelletier and Millie Pratt in the school to present winners with trophies - including our Senior Girls team!
Thanks to all parents who were able to attend our Spring Concert!  Students were very excited to share their growing skills with everyone  AND - what a bake sale held by the Grade 9 Farewell team!!  So many delicious tidbits!!
This past week was Mental Health Week when students engaged in lessons around Flippin' the Stigma - don't bottle it up!  Each day - Monday through Thursday - students engaged in activities with a bottle of water, ripping off the label and examing stress culminating with a bottle flipping contest.  We hope that it provided time to deepen understanding of mental health.  To add to the fun for the week -  we had a Fun Lunch on May 4th.  On May 19, Sam Demma will be coming to the school to speak to students about his red backpack and how to lighten the load.
Grade 6 students enjoyed the Military Museum trip this week - thank you to School Council for covering the cost of bussing!
Do you have your tickets?  Seussification of Romeo and Juliet performance dates have arrived and the buzz in the school is getting louder!  Tickets for shows on Wednesday May 10 and Thursday May 11 can be purchased on the Fun Lunch account site until May 8!
Grade 8 students had an authentic learning experience through their Samurai Bootcamp this week - ask them about it!
Our Grade 9 students will depart soon for the West Coast Sailing trip which will be very exciting!  Get your rubber boots ready!
The first Provincial Achievement tests for Grades 6 and 9 are on May 15 (Grade 9) and May 17 (Grade 6).  This test is the written portion of English Language Arts.
If you have not submitted your name to attend the Volunteer Garden of Gratitiude on May 31 at Pratt, please send an email to your child's teacher to let them know you are able to attend.  We very much appreciate your generous donation of time and want to celebrate YOU!
Our shiny new Sports Court is getting a wonderful workout from our students AND our community.  Please enjoy access and do your very best to keep the court surfaces as clean as possible.  You can do this by ensuring you are wearing shoes that will not damage the court surface with embedded rocks or other debris.  Staff have been brushing the surfaces off to ensure we are able to maintain a superior surface to play on.
