Our School

To learn more about the communities we serve, school information and designations view our School Profile.

Our school celebrates a diverse learning community, welcoming students representing 23 different languages and countries-of-origin.

Professional learning supports our school development plan focused on literacy. Early dismissal Fridays allow teachers to engage in conversations around research, best practice and student work to support the success of all learners at Abbeydale School.

Abbeydale School is organized into 11 classrooms, including one half-day Kindergarten classroom. Grade teams work to support all learners with the ability to create flexible groupings and collaborative learning opportunities. A school-wide sense of community and belonging is created through cross-grade learning tasks and extra-curricular opportunities throughout the school year.

What is best for students is at the heart of all decisions regarding teaching and learning at Abbeydale School. We believe in building a caring community within our school where people feel valued, safe, supported, and respected. Conversations are built upon our Three Pillars of Care: Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for our Place. It is our strong belief that a learning environment should nurture and support intellectual engagement, wonder and curiosity, and a sense of well-being.  We recognize the integral role parents play in this work.

Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. In 2021, our school, along with all CBE schools made a TRC Commitment to Action. On June 21, 2022, we renewed our commitment, which can be found under Resources.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
