Administration’s Message:
Dear Abbeydale Parents/Guardians:
On behalf of all the staff at Abbeydale School, we wish you and your family a happy new year! We hope that during 2021 you will all be healthy and happy. We look forward to continued collaboration with you.
As you know, the week of January 4 – 8 is at home learning. Students are expected to participate through their google classroom account. Teachers will post the daily/weekly schedule on their google classrooms so that students and parents can anticipate when the class is meeting and what tasks are being assigned. Attendance will be taken twice a day, AM and PM. Please email your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We anticipate that students will return to in person learning on Monday, January 11.
We are so proud of our students for their acts of showing compassion in December! We “caught” students in acts of compassion and created this display on the documentation board across from the office, isn’t it fantastic!!
Documenting acts of compassion is just one way that we are creating a positive, caring environment at Abbeydale School. Every month for the rest of this school year, as a whole school we will be focusing on and encouraging students to demonstrate a “virtue” that helps them build positive relationships with others (as part of our Well-Being for Learning goal from our School Development Plan). Our “virture” for the month for January is inviting others to join in, February is showing care and concern, March is fair ways to play, April is identifying similarities and differences in others, May is respecting different preferences, and June is being assertive. Teachers will be emphasizing the virtues of the month in their social skill development lessons and reinforcing them throughout the day.
Through the month of January there will be some staff changes occurring. We welcome Rajinder Bal, educational assistant who will be starting on January 4. Melissa Cooper, grade 5 teacher will be returning for a few weeks in January to continue teaching grade 5 until Brandy Park returns from her leave. Shazia Rajan-Qamberi will be starting a leave on January 11 and we will welcome Andra Slavik back to Abbeydale to teach grade 3 until the end of the school year.
For parents whose children are currently participating in Hub on-line learning, if you wish your child to return to in person learning, the deadline for providing notice of intent is 12:00 noon on January 8. You must complete the Hub learning notice of intent online through your MyCBE account.
Take care, stay safe and healthy,
Tresa Pedersen Wright and Greg Bennett
