Lunchtime

Lunch Program

Welcome to the Alexander Ferguson Elementary School Society (A.F.E.S.S.) Lunchroom Program.

We are an independent operator providing lunch supervision services in a CBE school. The program is designed to accommodate any elementary student (Grades 1-6) who wishes to attend and requires registration and payment of the fee to participate. A waiver process is in place for families who cannot afford the program fee.

If you utilize the Lunch Supervision program but do not sign the registration form, you will be deemed to have accepted this contract and will be charged the full amount of the applicable fee.  A drop-in fee option is also available for occasional participation. See below for payment options.

Please remember that we are a peanut aware program. We have several students at our school with life threatening nut allergies. We cannot guarantee that these students will not come into contact with nuts or nut residue at our school. For their safety, please do not send your child to school with peanut butter sandwiches or any items that may contain nut products

Cutlery is not provided.

Outline of Daily Operations

The lunchroom is divided into two groups with the Division I (Grades 1, 2 and 3) students eating their lunch from 12 noon until 12:25 PM and the Division II (Grades 4, 5 and 6) students eating their lunch from 12:25 until 12:50 PM.  When students are not at their assigned seats in the lunchroom area they are outside on the playground, field, and compound or naturalization area.

Lunchroom Attendance & Expectations

As the noon period is a part of the school day, the same behaviour is expected of the children in the lunchroom as in their classroom.

If your child is registered in the Lunchroom and will be away during the noon hour, please leave a voicemail at 403-777-8270, ext. 3 and sign out your child in the yellow binder (located in the office or on the hallway desk). Remember that you must sign the yellow binder any time your child leaves the school during regular school hours, 8:35 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:50 PM – 3:24 PM.

Fun Lunches

Fun lunches are periodically scheduled and gives our students an opportunity to eat lunch, socialize with their friends at school and take part in special activities. For our upcoming fun lunches, please check our school Calendar.

For further information or inquiries about the AFS Lunch Program, please contact the program administrator at 403-777-8270 Ext. 3 or send an email to afessosc@gmail.com.

Garbage-less Lunches

In an effort to reduce waste, we encourage students to bring snacks and lunches to school in re-usable containers. We discourage the use of prepackaged foods and snacks. We have no garbage cans in our lunchroom and students are expected to bring any garbage home with them.
