Canada 150 celebration

Our Canada 150 celebration was a huge success! Students loved performing folk style music for their families and the community. They enjoyed various creative elements like singing with whole group involvement, singing in two parts, playing various musical instruments, and performing actions and choreography of songs. Students loved that they were able to incorporate humor and make the audience laugh while entertaining them with a variety of instruments, lively music and actions.

The performance celebrated Canada’s geography and development from coast to coast. Some topics included the history of the Acadians, the First Nations People, building the railroad, settlement, and respecting and acknowledging the land. The student learning also included a Ted Harrison inspired mural for each province and area that was created by each class. These large murals also supported the ambiance for the celebration and showcased further student work and evidence of teamwork. A huge thanks to Ms. Lietz for all of her work on this performance.

Food Bank

A great big THANK YOU to all the families who supported our “Scare Away Hunger” Food Bank Drive last fall. We collected a total of $374.75! The Calgary Food Bank multiplies each dollar contributed by $5 which means the Food Bank will be able to purchase $1,873.75 worth of food.

Hat and Mitten Trees

One of the ways our school community reaches out to others during winter is by decorating our Hat and Mitten Trees in support of Inn from the Cold.

Inn from the Cold offers shelter, sanctuary and healing to assist homeless children and their families achieve independence. Last year, Inn from the Cold provided 43,667 shelter bed stays, served 131,001 meals to homeless children and their families, and was able to offer Early Childhood Development Programs to 5,535 participants. Learn more at: http://innfromthecold.org/

As each winter sets in, you are invited to help bring warmth into the lives of those who need it most by decorating the trees (located near the school office) with NEW hats, mittens and socks for adults and children. Warm heads, hands and feet = warm hearts. All donations will be gratefully accepted and delivered to Inn from the Cold around mid-December.

Your help in continuing this warm, giving tradition would be very much appreciated.
