Alex Munro School Updates | September 21-25

Parent Teacher Telephone Interviews | September 25 8:30am – 2:00pm
On Friday, September 25 teachers will be connecting with parents and guardians on the telephone to share information and insights regarding students learning needs. Please review the following steps for booking a Parent Teacher Telephone Interview:
There is no school for students on September 25.
Telephone interviews are scheduled in 15 minute blocks from 8:30am – 2:00pm
The on line conference booking tool will open Saturday, September 19 at 8:00am
Log into your MyCBE account to book a 15 minute appointment with each of your student's teachers.
Teachers request that parents complete and return a student information survey prior to the interview time. These will emailed to all families early next week.
Please note, teachers will place the call to parents at the appointed time. Parents are requested to indicate the preferred phone number in the student information survey. This will support a smooth and timely transition between telephone interviews.
Self-Care in the Schoolhouse
Students are adapting the expectations and requirements of the return-to-school plan. We appreciate parent support in assisting students to continue to understand their roles and responsibilities:
Mask Etiquette: Students are encouraged to pack an extra face mask in their school bag. This enables students to change their mask as required. The school is equipped with a supply of masks in the event of an emergent need (i.e. lost, left at home, soiled) Students are encouraged to establish daily after-school routines for packing clean masks for the next day.
Hand Washing & Sanitizing: Regular hand washing and sanitizing is required by all students and staff throughout the school day. While these expectations are becoming routine for many students we continue to monitor and encourage students to demonstrate increased independence and compliance.
Water Bottles: Students are required to bring a bottle of water to school each day. Bottles may be filled in the classroom sinks as required. Please note the water fountains are closed for the duration.
Dressing For all Kinds of Weather: Students can expect to be playing and learning outdoors every day. These regular fresh air breaks are essential for student well being. Please ensure your child is equipped to be in the outdoors for all kinds of weather.
A Message from the Alex Munro School Council Executive
The Alex Munro School Council welcomes all parents & guardians to join the conversation! The first meeting for the 2020/21 school year will be held on an online platform September 21st at 6:00pm. If you wish to participate in this online meeting please send an email confirmation to alexmunroschoolcouncil@gmail.com. All parents who rsvp will receive an email with details regarding the online platform and log-in information.
Orange Shirt Day | September 30
Orange Shirt Day is a day when Canadians honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools. On this annual day of remembrance Alex Munro students will engage in conversations and activities to advance their knowledge and understanding of this chapter in Canadian history.
The Terry Fox Event | October 2
This year is the 40th Anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope. In the days leading up to this event, students and staff will engage in conversations about Terry's choice to contribute his time and talents to helping others. Terry showed us that anything is possible if you try. We can all make a difference in the world and change people's lives for the better.
