Principal's Message

March 22, 2021

Dear Altadore Families,
As administrators, we ensure that we touch base with teachers after School Conferences: we want to hear how they went, what follow-up we need to be aware of, and what can be done on our end to support students. After our discussions last week, there was a common sentiment among teachers that we felt was important to pass onto our families.
Every teacher - every single one of them - shared that the parents this year expressed that they were exceptionally grateful for the work the teachers are doing. At Altadore, our teachers are fortunate to have incredible engagement and frequent praise from parents, but our teachers felt that during this year - more than any other - they have consistently felt supported and appreciated by families.
This has not been an easy year for teachers. Many teachers have had to adjust their style of teaching to adhere to COVID protocols; they are missing carpet time, group work, regroupings, and the ability to join other classes for recess, buddies, and celebrations.
Despite the challenges of the year, our teachers have put in an incredible amount of work and have been flexible, creative, and innovative in their planning to ensure your child is engaged, challenged, and safe.
It cannot be understated how much it means to our teachers to hear parents acknowledge the challenges of the year and recognize the work the teachers are doing. We had a family drop off ice cream treats for our staff this week, we had School Council fill our staff washrooms with wonderful soap products, and we had parents who expressed their gratitude during the Conferences. The acts of kindness we have witnessed from you, our parents, over the past week alone are rejuvenating and are so appreciated.
Thank you for being active in your child’s education. Thank you for recognizing the hard work of our teachers. Thank you for your ongoing support of Altadore staff and students.
On a final note, we just wanted to remind you that the next Weekly Update won’t be sent out until Tuesday, April 6 due to Spring Break. As always, please reach out if you have anything you would like to share or discuss.
