Volunteering at Altadore School

Altadore School LOVES volunteers!  Our students are able to do so many extra events and activities that would not be possible without our volunteers.  There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer at our school:

  • Help with certain tasks in the classroom, the library, or the office
  • Join School Council
  • Assist with supervision on field trip
  • Serve fun lunches to students
  • Read with students who require extra support
  • Organize special events for students
  • Communicate with your room parent to learn about other opportunities.

To find out about volunteering opportunities, you contact your child's room parent, read the Weekly Updates, and look at the events tab on our website.

Before volunteering at Altadore School, it is important that you are familiar with the CBE's policies for volunteering listed above. If you have any further questions, please contact our administrative secretary at 403-777-6910. We look forward to having you in our school!

Current Opportunities

Class of 2020, Grade 6 Graduation Committee Volunteers Needed

Time is flying by for our Grade 6 students and it will be June before we know it! We are looking for 8-10 Grade 6 parents to form a committee to plan and organize year end activities for our amazing graduation class of 2020 and their families! If you are interested, please contact Dayna at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com.

Milk Volunteers Still Needed!

We are still in need of milk volunteers for the next few weeks! Please sign up here to help out and keep this program running for our students. Thank you!

Swimming Dates - Volunteers Needed

Our tentative dates for swimming lessons are the week of May 4 for the kindergarten students and June 8th for the Grades 1-6 students. Although it seems far away, we are always in need of male volunteers to help in the boys’ change room. If there are any
dads, uncles, or grandpas who could help us out, and who don’t have a current security clearance, please consider coming in over the next few weeks to set up that clearance. It can take 4-6 weeks to be approved. Thank you in advance!

Volunteer with Us

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Contact us about ways you can volunteer with our school.

Visit the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check. (Please note, guest speakers or visitors to the school, and parents/guardians assisting their own child only are not considered to be volunteers and do not require a police information check.)

Volunteering for an Off-Site Activity

If you want to volunteer for an off-site activity, please keep in mind:

  • Volunteers on an activity are considered representatives of the Calgary Board of Education and are subject to the same expectations as staff
  • Volunteers are subject to the requirements of CBE Administrative Regulation 5003 – Volunteers, which includes an application and a police security screening check
  • Volunteers are covered by the CBE’s liability insurance policy while performing their assigned duties
  • Volunteers are covered by WCB while performing their duties
  • Volunteers receive direction from and are accountable to the teacher-in-charge
