Principal's Message

Monday Message - September 18

Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,

Thanks to the parents who attended our School Council Meeting last week. As a staff we are grateful for your engagement and support and for the efforts around fundraising. The apple fundraiser runs until the 20th and the Sibbald Apparel online store runs until the end of the month. Please stay tuned for information about volunteering for the upcoming Casino on October 4th and 5th!

Sibbald’s Grades 3-6 Choir
Our Grade 3-6 Choir will begin on Tuesday, September 26th in the Music Room.  Students will be given choir notices this week to be signed and returned by Friday, September 22nd.  Choir rehearsals will begin at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesdays, once students have eaten their lunch.  We ask that students who choose to join the choir make a commitment to attend all choir rehearsals until our Winter Break.  We are excited to have the opportunity to learn and sing together!

Terry Fox Update - September 26th
Our Grade Five students have been working hard planning and organizing our upcoming Terry Fox Run event. The Terry Fox run will be on Tuesday, September 26 in the afternoon. Students will organize a mini-run for our Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten class on Monday, September 25.
Please consider donating to help continue Terry's Marathon of Hope legacy. Donations can be made in the form of a Toonie for Terry. Donations will also be collected online this year. Postcards with a QR code to our online donation page will be distributed on Monday. You may also use this link to donate.
Parents are also invited to run alongside students on September 26. Please meet us outside at 1:30. Students will begin the run at approximately 1:30. Students will return to their classes after the Terry Fox Run until dismissal.

Treaty 7 Week
Monday, September 18th marks the beginning of Treaty 7 Week. We are proud of our Grade 4 and Grade 5 students for their leadership and learning in the observance of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. All students are invited to wear orange shirts on September 28th. Thank you to our Grade 4 and 5 teachers for organizing a learning assembly on October 5th at 1:00 p.m. to highlight this learning.

You Are Invited - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day Event - Sept. 30
CBE students, staff and their families and friends are invited to join an event being hosted by the City of Calgary in partnership with the CBE and the CCSD. The third annual ceremonial opening is taking place on Sept. 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Fort Calgary. This year's gathering will include a smudge tent, in-person Indigenous speakers and performers, an aerial salute ceremony, and other events. The events will also include an intertribal dance demonstration featuring Indigenous students from the CBE and CCSD. Participants are encouraged to wear orange.
Following the YYC, CBE & CCSD event, all are invited to join the Pokaiks – The Children Commemorative Annual Walk and Gathering 2023. The walk will begin at 11 a.m. at City Hall (15-minute walk from Fort Calgary or 2-minute drive) and continue to Shaw Millenium Park (30-minute walk). The walk will be followed by drumming/dancing, Indigenous community speakers, artisan booths, and food sales.
