Dear Andrew Sibbald Families,
It’s another busy week ahead at Andrew Sibbald School. Here are just a few highlights: our Grade 1 classes will host a special presentation from Junior Achievement and our Grade 2 classes will connect virtually with an expert out of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy around their polar bear and seal inquiry. Our Grade 5 students have been preparing for their Open Minds experience with 2School and Room 7 will engage in this learning offsite this week. Thank you to the parents supporting this learning for the students!
School Council Meeting on Wednesday – 7:00 p.m.
Please join us in our School’s Learning Commons this Wednesday evening (February 8th) at 7:00 p.m. for our School Council Meeting. The Parent Association Meeting will take place directly after the School Council Meeting.
Pink Shirt Day Kick-Off Assembly – February 13th, 10:00 a.m.
As a yearlong inquiry into acts of kindness in our community, the grade two's, along with the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten class, will be organizing an assembly and various school wide events to recognize the importance of Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 in Nova Scotia when 2 boys wanted to share their support for a fellow classmate who was bullied for the colour of shirt he wore to school. Since then, schools and organizations have recognized Pink Shirt Day as a display of their intolerance of bullying, with the hopes to spread kindness as well as support those who need someone to stand up or stand beside them.
Andrew Sibbald School will be kicking off our Pink Shirt Day activities with a special assembly on Monday, February 13th at 10:00am, with the Kindergarten and Grade Two classes sharing some of their learning. Parents are welcome to attend. We are asking all students, staff, and parents to wear something pink for this assembly, to help create a Sea of Pink in support of this important event.

Valentine’s Day (info previously shared)
We look forward to celebrating the themes of friendship and belonging on Valentine’s Day at Andrew Sibbald School. Many students get excited about being able to give their classmates Valentines on February 14th. We would ask that if your child brings Valentines cards there are enough for all their classmates. Teachers will set aside a short time during the day for students to hand out Valentines. Please remember that food items should not be sent with your child, as there will be no sharing of food or class parties. Items such as special pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. are great alternatives, if you wish to send something with Valentine’s cards. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
