Illness & Medical

Attendance Line: 403-777-6830 ext. 1 (available 24 hours)

Absences

If a child will be absent or late, parents are expected to email the school at andrewsibbald@cbe.ab.ca or phone the school attendance line before 8:15 a.m. Please leave a message on the attendance line, including child’s name, teacher’s name and reason for absence. If a reason is not given, student will be marked unexcused. Parents will be contacted if we have not received a message. Please see the Attendance page for more information.

When Children are Ill

Good health is necessary for effective learning. We also foster a consideration for the well-being of others. When a child is sick, parents will be called to come and take their child home. For this reason, it is important that parents keep the school informed of current work and emergency phone numbers.

Food In School

Many children have adverse reactions, including allergic reactions to different types of food. These reactions have implications for student health and for student learning.

To respect the health conditions of our entire student population, we ask that students do not share food.

If teachers decide to use food in connection to teaching and learning, they will send a letter home requesting permission for your child to participate.

Allergies

Andrew Sibbald School is a nut-aware school. For the safety of our students with life-threatening allergies, we ask that you do not send lunches or snacks that contain nuts of any kind to school. Students are not permitted to eat food containing peanuts or nuts of any kind within classrooms. If a student has food containing peanut/nuts during lunch, there is a nut/peanut table that they will be required to eat at so that we can try to ensure that any trace of these products are cleaned up appropriately.
