Support for Students at the CBE

Our students’ success is our top priority and we understand that our students live complex lives and that many factors both in school and outside of school can affect their ability to learn. The CBE offers a variety of services (such as Culture and Linguistic Support, Exceptional and Special Needs, and Psychological Services) to support students, their families and our school, so students can be successful learners. Visit the CBE website to learn more.

Student Services

Counselling

There is a counsellor available to students. Students need only to drop by the Main Office and sign up for an appointment. Students are always welcome. No problem is too big or small; our counsellor is here to help. Parents/Guardians are also welcome to seek the counsellor’s advice regarding their child at school.

Student Learning Centre

The Student Learning Centre in the Learning Commons is for students who are on an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) or who need specialized support. There is a Resource teacher available one period a day.

School Nurse

A Public Health Nurse is available at the school on a weekly basis to answer any questions students may have about their health. The nurse is also available for any health related activities within the school or community. See the office for the nurse’s schedule or contact information.

School Resource Officer

Our School Resource Officer (SRO) is a member of the Calgary Police Service. The SRO works with the school’s administration to address issues of harassment, theft, trespass, assault, and drug or weapon possession or use. The SRO is also available for in-class presentations.

School Photographs

All students are required to have pictures taken for administrative purposes. A commercial photographer photographs each student in the fall for our yearbook and again in the spring. The Grade 9 student spring photographs used for the Grade 9 Composite Picture which is then installed on one of the hallway walls of the school. There is no cost associated with either picture taking activity. However, many students and parents/guardians will choose to purchase photograph packages. The cost of these packages varies from year to year and must be paid for at the time of ordering. On occasion, administrators will photograph students for the purpose of a permanent record, for example, injuries.

Telephone

A student phone is located in the main floor south hallway near the Main Foyer. These phone calls are to be quick. If this service is abused, the phone will be removed for a period of time. The telephone in the Main Office is a business line. We will take messages from parents/guardians for their child (calls will not be transferred to classrooms) and announce names of students with messages in the office just before the lunch and school end of day bells.

This telephone line is for student access on:

    11:58 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.
    2:30 – 2:45 p.m.
  • Early Dismissal Days
    7:45 – 7:58 a.m.
