If Your Child Will Be Absent If your child is not at school, please email: auburnbay@cbe.ab.ca or call the office at 403-817-3540. For safety, please ensure you call or email our school to report a student’s absence or to indicate that the student will be late. We become concerned if your child is not at school and we have not received a message about this. If a child is absent and we have not been notified in advance, the office staff will attempt to contact parents at home or work. If a child is ill they will be marked absent/excused however should there be several days of illness throughout the year a doctor notice may be required. All other absences are marked unexcused. Should you have a family emergency and your child will be absent please call the office at 403-817-3540.
Arriving late
Morning instruction starts at 8:00 am, with the doors opening to students at 7:50 am. If your child is going to be more than 10 minutes late for school please email auburnbay@cbe.ab.ca or call 403-817-3540 to report your child late. Students who arrive at school late are to report to the office to sign in and receive a late slip before going to class. When students arrive late and do not sign in and get a late slip this can result in the school assuming your child is not at school, and therefore calling to ask about your child’s attendance. An “excused” late is defined as a medical appointment or other event of that status. All other late arrivals are considered “unexcused”.
Frequent Absences
It is important that students are at school as frequently as possible. Did you know?
· By Grade 3, students with regular attendance are more likely to read at grade level.
· Students who attend likely are less likely to fall behind in school.
· Regular attendance is an important life skills on the path to graduation and future employment.
If a student is frequently late or absent, families will be contacted by an administrator in order to develop strategies together.
Whenever possible please plan for students to be at school, everyday during instructional time. Although at times this is not possible, we advise you to minimize absenteeism due to appointments, or picking your child early to go home.
