The Calgary Board of Education provides students with the option to stay at school for lunch. Lunch Supervision is offered to all students in Grades 1- 6 and in our full-day kindergarten programs for an annual fee. Students in these grades require direct supervision during the lunch hour, regardless of the grade configuration of the school or the mode of transportation the students use to get to and from school each day.

Principals have the flexibility to make school-based decisions for their lunch supervision programs.

You can expect the following for your lunch supervision fees:

  • A safe and caring environment for students to eat lunch.
  • Supervision for the entire lunch period, unless the student is signed out by a parent/guardian.
  • Daily attendance will be taken.
  • Students must remain on school grounds, unless written permission has been provided to the school by a parent/guardian.
  • A dedicated space for eating.
  • Only students that have registered and paid the lunch supervision fee can access the service:
  • The CBE has a waiver process for families who can’t afford to pay the fees.
    • Note | Use of service indicates that the Parent/Guardian accepts the terms and the responsibility to pay the annual fee.
    • Income tax receipts are issued for lunch supervision fees that may be included as child care expenses for income tax purposes.
  • Lunch supervision fees are directed to providing lunchroom supervisors.

What lunch service is not:

  • Guaranteed access to a table and chair or an assigned seat.
  • Access to food or snacks; students are required to bring a lunch.
  • Access to a microwave, hot water, dishes, utensils or other cooking facilities.
You can register and pay online with MyCBE.

Lunch Supervision

Lunch Supervision at Auburn Bay

Auburn Bay School offers a four-day (Monday – Thursday) lunch supervision program for students in Grades 1-4. Lunch Supervision begins on the first day of school. Students bring their own lunches and are supervised both while they eat lunch and while they play outside. No microwave or hot water services are available.

Staying at school for lunch provides students the opportunity to practice social skills and peer interactions.  All students have a scheduled inside eating time and a scheduled outside play time, with caring adult supervisors both inside and out.  Our lunch program runs from Monday-Thursday for students in Grades 1-4.

All students attending the lunch program are required to register and pay the Lunch Supervision fee by September 30.

Changes to My CBE Account

Over the summer, changes will be made to My CBE Account, the online parent account that allows families to pay fees or apply for a waiver, register for transportation and noon supervision, as well as view student progress.

Families will need to set-up new accounts to continue to do online transactions. To create a new account families will need to have their child’s CBE Student ID Number. Watch our website in August for more information about the transition.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families after the start of the school year in September and October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

There are a number of different ways you are able to pay school fees, including: online using VISA, MasterCard, VISA Debit or Interac Online; in-person at schools; or by sending in a cheque to the school or CBE.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.
