Principal's Message

Principal's Weekly Update | September 16, 2022

Good Afternoon Beddington Heights Families:
I hope this message finds you all doing well on National Trades Day. Our tradespeople have often been considered the backbone of the nation as they are responsible for ensuring we have the infrastructure to survive and thrive. For more information on National Trades Day, click here.
I have a few items to which I would like to draw your attention:
Terry Fox Run
Today we hosted our Terry Fox Run at BHS and it was a huge success! Our students began with a brief assembly in the gym highlighting Terry's legacy and followed it up with a 30 min run in our school field. The kids did an amazing job, and I wanted to thank our teachers Mrs. Young, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Sterne for organizing the event. Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation continue to be accepted until the end of the month, and depending on how much is raised, Mr. Shackelton has offered some incentive if certain limits are hit. Check out our Instagram page for some photos from today's events!
Hug and Go Zone
Please note that Bermuda Drive on the school side of the street is a “Hug and Go" zone from the lamppost (marked with a Hug and Go sign) to the crosswalk. If you would like to stay and watch your child until they enter the school, please park somewhere outside of this zone.
I have attached information below regarding the Community Parent Education Program offered for FREE by Hull Services. The next parenting course will be held September 27th on-line via Zoom. Each course involves 8 evening sessions running once a week from Sept. 27 until Nov. 15. Please see the information below if interested.
Student Code of Conduct
As a school, it is our responsibility to ensure a positive learning environment for all students. It is our responsibility to ensure that staff and students are provided with a caring, welcoming, respectful, and safe learning environment. The Student Code of Conduct outlines these principles and identifies the roles and expectations related to student conduct.
Bridge Club
Bridge Club program is a safe and fun space where immigrant, newcomer, low income, and Indigenous children positively engage with peers and their leaders. This program is offered to grades 1-6. Our activities encourage participants to practice English language skills, gain self-esteem and confidence, work on physical literacy, and make new friends. Participants will learn through various arts and crafts, STEM projects, recreational games, and problem-solving activities. Bridge Club will run afterschool, once a week on Thursdays. Program runs from October 6th to December 15th 2022. Participants of the Bridge Club program will leave feeling connected to other children and youth who work to overcome language, cultural and social barriers together.
I wish each of you a great weekend, and as always, if I can be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me at
Take care,
Steve Ross

Meet the Teacher Night
Meet the Teacher Night will take place on September 22nd from 6-7:30pm. Homeroom teachers will provide two repeat presentations so you will be able to catch both should you have multiple children in the school. We will begin with a brief gathering in the gymnasium before branching out to homeroom class presentations.
Online forms:
As communicated through a system wide School Messenger, many forms will now be completed online through your MyCBE Account including the Demographic Verification form and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy form. To locate these forms, please log in to your MyCBE account and select Online Forms and School registration on the left-hand side.
Hard Copy Forms:
Your child should have come home with two forms earlier this week.
Admirable Use Policy form – Students need to have a signed copy of this form returned to their homeroom teacher in order to access the school's technology (Chromebooks, iPads etc.)
Brown Baggers Program form – Allows you to identify which foods should/should not be given to your child in the event they have forgotten their lunch on a given day.
Printable Forms (attached):
The following forms are either informational or are available to be printed off and returned to the school. Should you require a hard copy of the form, please contact the office, and we will ensure one is sent home with your child.
Student Health Plan - This form must be:
completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student's attendance at school
completed if medication is to be taken at school
reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student's health concern or school registration.
This form may not need to be completed by all families. It is only required if any of the above conditions apply for your child.
Walking Field Trip Form – Teachers organize short walking field trips during the course of the year. The attached letter outlines the rationale and process for these trips. Please contact the school if you have any questions about this process.
Annual Volunteer Registration Form – Needs to be completed every year in order to volunteer within the school or on field trips. Also requires a current (within the last 5 years) police check on file with the school. Contact the office if you have any questions.
