Our School

Students and their families

We have incredible students and families at Beddington Heights School. We celebrate a wonderful blend of cultures at our school: the majority of our students were born in Canada, while 37% of our families are English as a Second Language. A strong, core group of parent volunteers add great value to the lives of students and staff members alike. Our School Council is full of caring and supportive parents who are an active and integral part of our school culture. Although this group accomplishes so much, they always welcome more parents and community members to take on roles or simply attend the monthly meetings.

Beddington Heights School staff

Our school staff is characterized by a combination of experienced teachers and assistants and those who are relatively new to the profession. We are keenly focussed on continuous improvement and professional learning for the purpose of enhancing student learning. This year all teachers and education assistants are focussed on enhancing student learning in the area of literacy. Our results reported here show some levels of growth in student literacy, however we know we have not met all of our targets. We are confident that the new resources and teaching practices being employed will benefit student literacy rates.

Beddington Heights School culture

Everyone who visits our school for the first time comments on the friendly, positive tone in the school. Wanting to continue to develop this positive culture, we have developed a new Positive Behavior Support Plan. This plan articulates to parents, students and staff consistent expectations for student conduct that enables their success in school. We have monthly themes that help us focus classroom learning and whole school activities on one character virtue that further enables success in school and in life.

​​School Development Plan

​Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.​​​

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school.
