Assessment and Reporting at BelPark

Assessment and Reporting involves conversations with students and family members about student work, both written and oral, as well as conversations with students during the process of work.  This information is shared with families at Learning Conferences.  

During the November Learning Conferences teachers share information about each student's Citizenship in Learning, Personal Development through Learning, and Character in Learning.  Sharing this information with families orally allowed for a discussion to take place and possible action plans, if needed, to be developed.  As well, teachers will explain students current areas of strength and areas for growth based on the Program of Studies and/or your child's Individual Program Plan (IPP). 

In January families will be receiving another portion of the Assessment and Reporting communication, the first Report Card.   A report card is a snapshot of learning in time which formally documents your child's learning when compared to Alberta's Programs of Study for a specific grade level and/or your child's Individual Program Plan (IPP), as well as their personal progress in Citizenship in Learning, Personal Development through Learning and Character in Learning.  The comment section will include strengths, as well as areas for growth and an action plan for these areas. 

In March, another face-to-face Learning Conference will occur with families and teachers. At this time teachers will use similar processes to the November conference to detail current student understandings.

At the end of the school year, in June, final Report Cards will be available for families to view via PowerSchool for students' current grade.

​We know it is important for parents/guardians to understand how their children are doing in school. Research shows that students are more successful with active parent/guardian involvement.

The report card is one component in communicating student learning. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways. 

Assessment happens every day, in every classroom, throughout the school year. Assessing a student’s progress is one of the most important ways we support the continued learning of our students.

We have developed some resources related to assessment and report cards, and to help you learn more about your child's learning. As more resources are developed, you will find them here.​
