Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-7840 ext. 1

Regular attendance is essential for student learning and is governed by the School Act of the Province of Alberta. Students are required to attend every day the school is in operation, unless prohibited from doing so because of illness, a family emergency, or the observance of a religious holiday. I f a student must be absent from school, we ask that his or her parent telephone the school at 403-777-7840 and press 1 for the absence line to report the absence. The school office will determine if the absence is excused. ALL unreported absences are recorded as unexcused. There are no optional attendance days on our calendar.

Late Arrival

Students are expected to be in the building by the warning bell, to go to their lockers, and to be seated at their desks at the start of every class. Unexcused late arrival to school or late between classes more than once in the same week (Wednesday PM to the following Wednesday AM) will result in a PAWS appointment (Punctuality Assistance with Support) during lunchtime the following Thursday. Students that do not attend this consequence may face a temporary in-school suspension.

Should a student have chronic problems with punctuality, administrators may assign additional PAWS appointments and contact parents to develop an attendance plan.

Checking Out or In During School Day

If students must leave the school due to illness, appointment, or other reason, they are to check out at the main office and provide a note from their parent. Similarly, if students arrive after the late bell, they must first check into the main office and receive a late slip to present to the receiving teacher.

Extended Leaves (Vacations)

Longer absences should be discussed with administration. If a student will be absent for more than three school days, an ‘Extended Leave of Absence’ Form must be completed. A copy of the form is attached and must be signed by the parent. Several days prior to departure, the student is asked to take the form to all teachers for signatures and then bring it to the office for Administration approval and copying. Teachers are not required to provide work during a vacation absence. It is the responsibility of students and parents to ensure any missed schoolwork is completed and to be prepared for any tests upon return.
