Attendance

Attendance Line: 403-777-7840 ext. 1

Regular attendance is essential for student learning and is governed by the School Act of the Province of Alberta. Students are required to attend every day the school is in operation, unless prohibited from doing so because of illness, a family emergency, or the observance of a religious holiday. If a student must be absent from school, we ask that their parent/guardian telephone the school at 403-777-7840 and press 1 for the absence line to report the absence. The school office will determine if the absence is excused. ALL unreported absences are recorded as unexcused. There are no optional attendance days on our calendar.

Checking Out or In During School Day

If students must leave the school due to illness, appointment, or other reason, they are to check out at the main office and provide a note from their parent. Similarly, if students arrive after the late bell, they must first check into the main office and receive an admittance slip to present to the receiving teacher.

Late Arrival

Students are expected to be in the building by the warning bell, to go to their lockers, and to be seated at their desks at the start of every class. Repeated unexcused late arrivals to school or between classes more than once in the same week will result in a follow up by teachers and administration. Attendance support plans may be put into place.

Extended Leaves (Vacations)

If a student will be absent for three or more school days, an ‘Extended Leave of Absence’ Form must be completed. This form is available in the office. Several days prior to departure, the student is asked to take the form to all teachers for signatures and then bring it to the office for Administration approval and copying. Teachers are not required to provide work during a vacation absence. It is the responsibility of students and parents to ensure any missed schoolwork is completed and to be prepared for any tests upon return.

Illness at School

When a student becomes ill at school, they should notify the classroom teacher, who will send or take the student to the office. If the student appears to be seriously ill, parents will be notified and with parent permission, the student will be allowed to go home. Under NO circumstances should a student who is ill remain in the washroom without contacting the office. Students not able to remain in class must report to the office. If they are too ill to return to class, the best and safest place is at home.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

We believe there is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students regulation applies to all of our students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
