About Our Music Program
By providing the highest quality of education in music, Bishop Pinkham helps students develop the skills to be successful in school and in life. Music Director Ryan Mikalson offers a variety of ways for students to learn, with the goal of developing a sincere appreciation and lasting enjoyment of music. Concert band is the core of the instrumental music program at BP, with the Guitar option adding an alternative stream that includes general and vocal music instruction. In addition to instrumental training, students use iPads to learn basic piano skills, recording, composition, and music technology.
The music program will include:
- Grade 7:
- Grades 8 & 9:
- Concert Band
- Jazz Band (extra-curricular program)
What’s Happening? Regular events include the Winter and Spring concerts, Remembrance Day Assembly, Pep Rally, Jazzy Desserts night, “Battle of the Bands,” Grade 8 & 9 Band Camp and Jazz Band Camp, and the Alberta International Band Festival. Students also have the opportunity to hear professional musicians perform throughout the year. Recent performances have ranged from Calgary Opera to a Cuban band, Bellita Y Jazz Tumbao.
