February Update

On behalf of our Bob Edwards’ school community, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2018!

We had a very restful winter break and we are now ready to move in the second portion of our school year.  Many exciting activities are happening at Bob Edwards right now.  Our grade 9 students are currently getting ready to register to their designated High Schools in preparation for next year.  Our 2 main designated High Schools, Lester B. Pearson and Forest Lawn have worked cooperatively with us to ensure our students feel confident in their move for next year.  Before the break, they had the opportunity to go and visit the schools and both Lester B. Pearson staff and Forest Lawn staff came to Bob Edwards to provide important information for next year’s move.  Our students are excited about their prospects in both of these buildings and I hear a lot of excitement in the hallways about the many opportunities afforded at each of these schools.  Bob Edwards is looking forward to our continued partnership with both of these High Schools to ensure our students feel confident in this next step of their journey.
Before the winter break, our report cards went home.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s achievement, we highly recommend that you book an appointment for the upcoming parent teacher interviews.

On January 25 and 26, we will have our Parent-Teachers interviews, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 8:30 AM to 12 PM on Friday morning.  This is an important time to ask questions and get a better understanding of where your child in his/her learning.  We want to partner with you in your child’s education and we really hope to see you there.
Our second semester started on January 15 which means that your child has a new set of exploratory courses.  Your child will have the same homeroom teacher and the same core teachers; however he/she will have new exploratory teacher(s).

This year, we have started a Student Advisory Council at Bob Edwards, where Ms. Reilly and I meet with a representative from every homeroom class once every month. It is important to note that a new representative is sent to this meeting every month and that attendance to this meeting is not linked to behavior or reward, this means that everyone is welcome to attend.  During these meetings, students are able to share with me what works for them (or not) as it relates to their learning, their peer interactions and their overall school experience. Ms. Reilly and I always look forward to these discussions as it provides us with insights on how to better engage our students.  I will be sharing this data with our Parent Council this spring.

Our School Council is working hard to support many opportunities for our students.  We have a small group of very dedicated parents and I would highly encourage you to attend and engage with our Parent Council as their work has a tremendous impact on our students’ experiences at Bob Edwards.

As a Bob Edwards team, we are ready and look forward to working side by side with you and your family in support of all of our students.
