Diversity and Student for Change Council

The Diversity and Student for Change Council is off to another exciting start this school year. Students were asked to submit an application form in order to become a member of the Council. Thirty-two grade 8 and 9 students are on Council. We will open up the Council to Grade 7s later. Lead students are meeting separately to prepare programs as well as coordinate activities for their group. Students have been divided into 5 student-led sub-committees. Thank you to the students who have taken on leadership roles.

As always, teachers who work with the Diversity and Student for Change Council students feel inspired by their passion, their hard work and their commitment to peace and justice.

Speech & Debate Club

From September to May, students at Bob Edwards have the chance to develop their skills in public speaking, acting and debate. Students may choose to sign up for inter-school competitions, and Bob Edwards is proud that club members have advanced to provincial and national tournaments! We welcome shy students who come to develop speaking skills in a friendly, safe environment. We also welcome confident speakers, with ambitious public speaking goals.

Our speakers and debaters meet after school from 3:30 - 5:00 PM one day each week and students may drop in and out, as other activities allow. During practice, we work on: speech writing, delivering speeches, literary readings, solo-acting, duet acting, debate and bilingual debate, depending on the interests of the group. In April, grade 8s and 9s can join in the annual Law Day Speech Competition, presenting their work downtown in the Calgary Courthouses!
